[AAR] Cooperating with the Commander and the sins of the infantry

Now I really don't know where this thread is suppose to go, but this is going to be more of a rant so I decided to put it here instead of tips. If you feel that this thread is in the wrong please report to an admin, I ask that you don't make a million posts telling me I put this in the wrong place.

This thread is about a round were I commanded the Chechens in fools road. This thread is not about a really bad game full of noobs, but this is about capable inf squads misusing the commander system. I know a lot of people are going to accuse of being an incompetent commander, so I'm going to have to lay my battle plan out. This is where this thread mixes with that PR tales section. (sorry admins for any trouble relocate thread to your desires).
My name in game is: Hanky123456 (really lame name I know Mr.hanky was taken ). this was on the Chicago hardcore server (really good server my fav).

I went commander on fools road, I'm a commander of some experience (I'm not perfect, and certainly not the best). I ordered my only two inf squads (ya lack of inf really sucks) into action. I told squad 6 to cap Hill Top, and after some confusion (my bad the signs showing the maps in order wasnt showing) I told squad 5 to head to train station. Squad 5 in the confusion rushed into hill top and built a Fire base ( I take full responsiblilty for this mistake). Since squad 5 had the transport, and were ready to go, I asked them to rush to train and build an FB (they had 2 trucks). I asked squad 6 to defend hill top. This where my adventure starts
Squad 6 was mad that 5 "stole" its firebase, they refused to defend hill top. However I couldn't order squad 5 back because they where already dedicated to building another fire base at train. They where in position and recalling them would be pointless, and would cause more confusion then needed. So I pleaded with 6 to defend since I had no other forces to defend that flag. They argued that won't defend another squad's fire base, and that now that 5 build it they should defend.

This is my oh noes moment: Squad 5 was in the fight, and most of the team was following suit. I had limited inf, and only 6 can defend that flag. I pleaded with them to plz defend that flag, even if its just temporary (I was thinking of pulling squad 5 and switching them with 6). However 6 refused, they went to attack train.
I called up the admin, but the 6 SL got really mad at this point. The admin warned him (he is a really good admin always does his job). He still doesn't follow orders and mutes me.

Now sorry for all this reading the real purpose of this thread is coming: Nobody got onto hilltop and it went neutral to the enemy. Right before hill top went under, we caped train. I panicked and took action. I ordered 5 to stop attacking and to head to hill top ASAP. Squad 5 obeyed instantly. The tank squad (another great squad kept that kepted the Russians at bay at train) to go to hilltop. I ordered squad 6 to defend while my team shifted attention. They would be with 8 keeping the Russians at bay (8 was a small sniper squad of 3-4 people I believe, I maybe wrong). However I was shocked to see squad 6 not defending, but going back to take hill top. WTFFFFF!!!!! Now I only had 4 people at rail. I ordered my tanks to turn, and travel half way across the map back to train. In the hope they can keep the Russians I bay. Squad 6 had muted me, and my typing was met with no answer. Now I only had 4 people defending train, and a lot of people attacking hill top. I had a lot of squads who weren't very organized attacking hill.

OMG now we get to the purpose: I yelled at squad 6 and they fought back. They accused me of being incompetent, and annoying. They said my voice was annoying them. This is what I have to say:
1. If you feel that my voice is annoying (I'm 16), tell me in a nice way. I will listen and try keeping talking to a minimum.
2. Most of the time I talk, I'm calling out enemy positions. This is for your own good! I'm trying to keep good intel going so I can make informed decisions. Look at your map, all my markers are accurate. I'm trying to keep you guys from being ambushed and surprised. Most of the time I fix an enemy, I usually send a force to defeat them (hell ya T-54!!!!)
3. Use your mic and talk to me. Inform me of your situation! Keep me in the know. Tell me why you disagree with my orders I will listen! Tell me if your getting ambushed, and spot every enemy squad you engage. If your in trouble I WILL HELP YOU. I hate seeing squads get eliminated and the SL telling me only after they all died. I usally have a few armored units and air power lying around I will do everything in my power to save you, even if that means sending you boots VIA apc.
4. Keep the intel fresh and follow orders. Tell me if I'm doing something wrong plz!
5. PLZ DON'T COMPLAIN TO ME ABOUT DISRUPTIVE PLAYERS. Infrom the admins PLZ! I'm here to command the battle not baby sit.
Anyway the 4 man squad and the tanks held the enemy at bay (miracle from god I don't know how they did it!). And I got the situation under control. In the end squad 6 somewhat listened to my orders VIA type, and we capped the Russians out.

My mistakes during the round:
1.I allowed confusion in the start BAD.
2. I may have talked to much (even if it means spotting stuff).
3. I was hard on squad 6

I would like to thank whattheh3ll for leading squad 5. He is a great leader! Join his squads. I would like to thank squad 3 and 8. Good work!

The true miss fortune is seeing those talented squads like 6, go to waste, and generally be like this. Being skilled is one thing, being a team player is another.

Well 1. You should complete the battleplan before you start the game, not 1 hour later on the forum.

*EDIT* I see you edited it just as I submited this. Um... yeah I can see the problem. I hate squad leaders like that. They do not belong in Project Reality. PR is all about team-work and cooperation. That squad is the type of people who makes people loses the game.

Commander is a valuable asset IMO if somebody knows how to use it right. As he is the only one with a detailed battle map and can see all the squads move and attack markers and communicate with them. He can come up with detailed strategies with all the assets he has. Which is more easier since squads all auto name themselves to the asset they are now.

When you got a** hats like that squad disobeying to play as a team and not follow orders. All you end up is a game lose. It only takes one squad to effect the result of a game unless you got a really really good team. Because unorganized teams always lose.

Um I came up with the battle plan 1 min into the game. The team didn't leave the main yet... I informed all of the squads of it. In this post I just described my plan...

And I agree with Alex. Squad 6 should have obeyed your orders instead of going off in their little world. It is great that you learned from the experience, though, and I'm positive you will succeed with this behind you.

unfortunately most the time its just about snipers talking about how many kills they got, but Im glad to see more posts like these, hopefully we see more in the future!

There are signs of it that you pickup the more you be a squad leader on AAS mode. Whenever I feel a commander is a moron and unfit to make decisions. I will always consider his orders regardless of my trust in his decision making. However there are some things I would obey at and some things I won't. Like if I lead a APC squad and the commander ordered me to help defend a capture point when there is reported tanks near it. I would ignore his orders because APC's vs Tanks is a poor choice. Plus they also probally got light AT around some-place that really puts it out of my favor.

You gotta know when to follow commands and when you know you are just entering a pointless slaughter and you would be put to better use in some other order.

The guy in the story seemed like he was just a sour puss, he wanted to build a FB so he put on his angry face when somebody else did it and made it personal. Doing the exact opposite of what the commander wanted.

People like that don't deserve to lead squads, infact don't even deserve to play PR.

Anyway thank you for your comments guys. Earlier on muttrah I commanded a successful team and we tore the enemy apart with the cobra. What made this round so much fun commanding is that we had 4-5 decent inf squads. We had a lot of inf, all of the apcs, and just enough choppers. The great thing about having a lot of inf on that map, is that CAS is a lot easier. I think why the U.S. usually lose that map is because they can't get up enough inf to match the MEC.

Why should the whole team suffer because of one squad? well ok most of the inf squads were disorganized, with no real squad leaders. But I had 4 good squads to work with, and those who weren't in a proper squad were skilled. So we won the game
To this day I can't believe 2 snipers and a marksmen kept the Russian team back at train.... (along with two random blue guys I believe).

I also play commander regulary (mainly due to a **** PC) and I get annoyed with squads like this, but at least this one muted you, some of the ones I had problems with just insult me (calling me an annoying c*nt etc.), the situation this time was that noobs had crashed half my helis on Muttrah City so I decided to say that only 1 heli could be airborne at anyone time, and everyone except for this one pilot were to go infantry and fight, or drive/gun APCs.

We didn't have a cobra because some one crashed it.

Can anyone tell me if I was in the wrong to have a go at troops at the carrier when we had a firebase up at docks, which was under heavy attack?

depends inf they wwanted to take the helis to land back and flnk them then ok but if they are noobs that dont know what they are doing by all means do somthing about it
