What if there's AA in the area? You probably don't have enough flares for 2 flybys over AA unless he's an idiot.

I've honestly never heard the term JTAC, but I'll assume I'm talking to a JTAC as I never really talk to the commander.

Could be wrong but I think it's the Brit term for a FAC (Forward Air Controller).

However I think even the US military uses both terms.

I always thought CAS was doing whatever you could for the ground forces, the apaches in afghanistan do whatever it takes to escort chinooks in to hot LZs for Casevacs and they're always supported by the likes of F-15Bs and B-1Bs (although neither of those two are comparable to A-10s). Besides A-10s were designed to provide low flying CAS for TIC (Troops In Contact) and normally take quite a brutal amount of damage before being taken out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Campbell_(pilot) a pilot whose aircraft lost all hydraulics. However in game (on training so i guess it doesnt count ) i've sustained multiple rounds from tunguskas and been able to return home after engaging enemies.

If this mod respected aircraft, 117 would be 100% correct. Instead, even those tanks could kill the A-10 by the time it uses its increased view distance to identify the threat.

Before we get into the issue of tactics, the A-10 needs to be much more durable than it is. The air superiority jets should be doing the high-altitude bombing because they do not have the armor to sustain an AA missile; give the A-10 the resilience to survive at least one missile, so that the pilot isn't so afraid to go as low as he should.

Well, my comments on the original post are this:

From my experience of the last days on the training servers, there is no way if to make a low level attack if the enemy has some good positioned active AA assets.

From my in-game observation, I can say that very often when our pilots got "bored" because of lack of lazing, all our Air support was shot down while making heroic low altitude attacks on the enemy positions.

I am afraid of AA.

Well as far as helicopters go all it takes is the AA's position to be identified, the the pilot can properly avoid it using cover. As a rule though I never go to an area I know has AA unless I know the AA sites exact location.

if all AA and air superiority is achieved then i would encourage low flying but when i have no idea if there is no AA I'll stay high and come in when the target is lased and the Grid is given, truth is I care about the loss of the jet more than my kills.

I hate it when some one lases a target and says fuck all all because IT doesn't know the correct procedures for calling in CAS.

fly really low when enemy jets are up.. it helped me a couple of times when i was on ground attack

The reason why I dont do this low stuff often, is:
A) I dont like making my team suffer -tickets
B) I dont like waiting 20 mins for aircraft allot
C) I dont like blue-on-blue

I agree with you for the most part, but there are certainly some situations that call for low level flight.
