PR population.

Post by Ossius »

Hi everyone.

For the last few months my friends and I have been playing LAN parties with BF2. Since I really don't own the copy I play with I can't go online (So it's basically a LAN demo of the game.) I know BF2 still has a strong community but I've played PR with my friends and while PR is awesome, we can't really do much when it's 4-5 players.
I was wanting to pick up a copy from target for a good $10 but first I was wondering if PR has a good number of players. Does anyone have a approximate number that play during the daytime hours US time?
Just wanting to research before I make my final purchase.

Thanks in advanced, and you might see me in the battlefield (no pun intended)

Don't worry, population should not be a problem. I don't have any numbers, but a few full servers are online almost 24/7

Hi there and welcome to the forums, there are around 140 servers, which of 30+ are active. Usually around 500 players playing at daytime hours :)

I think 3-4 servers are always populated (50+ players), during peak hours I think sometimes there's 15 full servers or sth?

Servers playing All Games | Server / Player Search | Game-Monitor.com :: Server Search, Monitoring, Stats and more

at this very moment in time 700 people are playing PR and at peak time on the weekends we usually see around 1,000 players playing :)

So ye its well worth getting a copy of BF2 to play it online, much better experience, also while your at it, if you dont already have a mic get one at the same time as you will need it ;)

in europe alone i see anywhere between 5 and 15 servers active so you shouldn't have a problem in the states.

also, i bought my version online. the whole set for 20 euros. so you can look around there

Since PR is also popular in Europe the European servers are populated during the US daytime and due to how PR plays a 200+ ping is still very playable overseas although some British servers ping as low as 150 or so for me. There's also some US servers with a decent population during the day as well.

Ah I remember my first time playing...First thing I did was TK someone with RPG on Basrah :o ops:

It was so confusing  at first, but it's easy to get the hang of things

Tip#1 READ THE MANUAL

Tip#2 Learn what your friendlies and enemies look like up close and at a distance

Tip#3 Identify your targets-just cause you think its an enemy doesn't mean it is,If an Insurgent picks up a US kit he will kinda look like an American but so will the US if they pick up an INS kit, they will have a rag on their head-so if your not sure just pull out your binocs and check

Tip#4 Learn what the different weapons sound like-When I play INS I find most of my targets from them shooting at someone-which brings me to...

Tip#5 Get some Stereo headphones with a mic-It's amazing how you can locate the enemy by hearing them to your direct left or front-right or maybe behind you

Tip#6 DONT WASTE OR STEAL ASSETS-very important stuff here- an asset could be a HMMV or an APC or a sniper kit. Dont take an APC if you dont have a gunner-or if there is an APC squad who needs it- If a squad takes a HMMV out in the field and park it while hunting a cache, chances are they are gonna want it back- If you get the Sniper kit get a sniper squad going and get a spotter-grabbing sniper in an INF squad will get you kicked from the squad-And going off by yourself in a hostile city full of insurgents will end up with them realising there is a sniper from them dropping dead or hearing the rifle and then they will send wave after wave to overrun you and get that kit

Tip#7 Use Teamwork! Listen to your squadleader and follow his orders, communicate with your squad-tell them you spotted an enemy North at 10 degrees(example) before opening up on them-unless your SL wants you guys to hold off on firing as not to give away your POS so that you can flank around

Tip#8 NEVER fly in deployment without mastering it in training first

Tip#9 Thou shall not teamkill- but seriously dont TK no matter how mad they make you or even if they TK you first, just tell a server Admin, Don't punish an accidental TK, You wouldn't want your hard earned score set back to zero

Tip#10 Above all remember to have fun and try to get get involved in the PR community and stay active on the forums!

Someone should take their own advice...

On topic: I too am impressed to see the numbers for the PR servers. Decent size community for a 4 year-old plus PC game.

Good to see a new and willing PR player. Most of the people I show this mod too drop it within 30 min of playing. Citing its too hard as the main reason.
