Re: [Weapon] Dragunov SVD
hmm... its just a suggestion... but i think the bipod on a dragunov is normally fixed to the barrel.

It looks okay except: the bayonet lug could be bigger, and you modeled the handguard after a wooden-furniture SVD but the stock is modeled after the polymer stock... The front of the handguard is more rounded on the polymer version.'[R-CON wrote:-kodiak-;1110950']

It could be just me, but the barrel to handguard length ratio seems a bit off.
There are also some pretty obvious differences, but I think you can put those other handguard details on the textures.
Also, please consider the exact POSP scope model you are modeling it after.

P.S. - It looks like you were modeling the exact opposite of this:http://www.armsandammunitions.com/wp-co ... agunov.jpg (pic: wooden stock, polymer handguard, 3d model - polymer stock, wooden handguard).

Ok the POSP i modeled it after would be the 4x24 i believe. It's a popular scope for the AK and SVD. I'm not an MA so please excuse me if i'm wrong. The bayonet lug seems fine to me, and the barrel length also is fine. It could just be the perspective angle that it was rendered at. Could you please post the pretty obvious differences you found on this? As you stated there are some things that will not be modeled and just textured in. I have a feeling i know what your going to point out and yes, it will look like two separate pieces and those lines at the front will also be textured/normal mapped. I checked my material and i don't see what your talking about the handguard. It's rounded where it needs to be and it's been approved by our MA's who have the 3d model to view. Nos has a keen eye for these things so i'd trust his judgement when he says it's A ok to go.

Re: [Weapon] Dragunov SVD
afaik standard issue for SVD is PSO-1 scopes and/or its modifications, POSP is civil version of it, not sure if they look sameComradeHX wrote: Also, please consider the exact POSP scope model you are modeling it after.
proportions are ok imo, look at other pics in his album

Re: [Weapon] Dragunov SVD
Really, there is no such thing as standard issued optics(SVD could be one of the exceptions, but I am not 100% sure on that because I have seen many other optics on a SVD), anything you see on the papers are only on paper, unless we are talking about some of the special forces(hell, there is a unit that is currently testing out Western gears and aimpoints and stuff) which I am sure PR is not going to have.DankE_SPB wrote:afaik standard issue for SVD is PSO-1 scopes and/or its modifications, POSP is civil version of it, not sure if they look same
POSP is not the civilian version, it is just of less quality, but cheaper.

Good to hear that you are going to make it correct.
Now, if only the serial numbers/factory stamps can be put onto the textures...(probably not possible).

Re: [Weapon] Dragunov SVD
Personally I think the bipod needs to be taken off, NO GOOD!
Also the buttplate needs to be change a little very rough no good.
Looks very rough overall...

PSOs manufactured for use by the Russians are from in Novosibirsk, Russia -- POSPs are manufactured in Belarus, by BelOMO.ComradeHX wrote: POSP is not the civilian version, it is just of less quality, but cheaper.

about "standard issue"
i hope you dont expect that conscripts are buying optics and other equipment, so they have what they've been issued or, if we're talking about war, what they taken from enemy/dead friendlies

I think DankE is right...
Is this useful?Rosoboronexport wrote:SVD is equipped with the 4x PSO-1M2 optical
sight, with an illuminated sighting mark
and a screen for detecting IR sources. The sight
is provided with a target range scale, as well as
a range and a lateral adjustment input device.
For firing at night, the optical sight can be
replaced with a night one. A standard attachment
point can mount various day and night
sights. A mechanical sight comprises an
adjustable foresight and a selector-type backsight.

Re: [Weapon] Dragunov SVD
Actually yes the serial number and stuff will be able to be textured on. There will be a lot of detail added once i bake the normal from a high rez model.
The "buttplate" or buttstock yes does look a little rough, but since you will never see the backside of the buttstock (unless there is an idle animation i don't know about) it would be a waste of polys to add to a part that will not be seen. Even in 3p view the buttstock end will almost always be covered by the shoulder, aaaaannnd if seen from 3p view it will still be high enough detail to produce a great overall final high quality that meets the high PR standards C:
I will hopefully be posting new renders either tonight or tomorrow.
