Hi,
I've been playing for a while now and upgraded my card a couple of times, but always using medium settings due to crashing issues all the time, However i feel like i should be getting more from my card at the moment.
So i thought time to take a plunge and mess around with my settings as this alt tab crash is annoying.
When i set everything to high the game always crashes at some time or another, i have tried taking aa off and forcing high aa on my card (without checking "enabling aplication settings" box)
In the past i have had all high and weird thins happen to the textures, they would dissappear, or go bright red, sometimes reappearing or not before the enevitable crash, the hesco does this more often than any other items.
Im using a radeon HD 4870 1GB, and my comp is running on vista 32, with an athlon X2 6000+
and 3Gigs of 800mhz Ram (also a 5 gig page file is set aside)
When i tried taking aa off in game it seemed like my card didn't even try to use aa even though it should be forced (I think it should ).
Any ideas?

Re: GFX how to get more from my card
I have the same g-fix card and had the same AA issues also same texture issues mine was black squares all over the floor. At the time i solved it by turning off all the ATI settings in the ATI control panel and just using let the aplication decide. Turned the in game AA to 8x. worked a treat. There is a nown issue with ATI drivers and its use of AA.
The text in the """"" is copied and pasted from a PC help forum. hope these settings help.
I have also just done a fresh reformat of my PC and the latest ATI drivers dont need any messing with also try the new drivers.
"""""""BF2 doesn't allow forcing AA through anything, the only way to use it is to set it in game. There is a bug though, where you can't change settings sometimes so you can edit the video.con file in my documents and that usually does the trick. Here's all high settings for you to copy.
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 6Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 2
""""""""""""""""
BF2 is old and your card is fine for running it once you sort your drivers PR (even with PR texture) will run on high as mine dose. The only issue you have is the CPU, RAM, and therfore also the MOBO. Not all that is displayed in game is due to your g-fix card the CPU and ram do alot also.

Re: GFX how to get more from my card
Thanks for the reply, i tried pasting these settings and the game now crashes to desktop with no error message on the "establishing connection" screen.
I told my card to use aplication settings too just to be sure and it still happened. Any ideas what tis could be due to? Narrowing down the problem here may also help with my ingame ctd's that hapen every 2-3 rounds between maps![Smile ](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
I will try manually inputting the settings to the specs and see if it changes them and post what happens
Edit:
The ctd at startup was due to AA being set to 6 in the .con settings below i guess it should have been 8.

Re: GFX how to get more from my card
Ok so I have had a play around and there are no problems with the red hesco and dissappearing hangars, none textured aircraft etc.
However now there are lots of black patches appearing on the ground, i have tried loweing the aa to 4 and that did nothing, i checked the GPU temp and it was nice and low, i even gave it a manual blast at 100% speed to see if it made a difference... it did not.
Also our old friend the alt-tab crash is back.

Re: GFX how to get more from my card
MY black ground textures seam to be due to textur quality in the ATI setting set everything to medium or balanced then every thing in game to medium see if that works.
Also what screen res are you playing at the settings for screen res may be to high in the .com file settings is posted it was ment as a guide not a copy paste fix.
Also have you tried the newest ATI drivers after my reformat and reinstall of every thing I had no issues what so ever with BF2 or PR. The crash when pressing alt+Tab did you have the alt+tab directx.dll fix for BF2. if not search for it as EA posted a hotfix for this issue.

Re: GFX how to get more from my card
OK thanx for the help it looks like the best I can get is;
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 2
VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1200@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 8Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 2
Which is better than before and is stable with no ctd's and alt tab working, it is also the highest aa I have achieved whilst stable so thanks to the tips on disabling the tripple buffering etc.
Its not maxed out but it is an improvement on what I had before so... RESULT!!
Thanks for your help, hope other people with similar systems give it a shot.
