I also hope the AAV7 doesnt replace the LAV but supplements it, after all the marines use both vehicles.
and to everyone whos concerned about the AAVs effectiveness against enemy apcs, I have to wonder in real life would an AAV even attempt to take on an enemy apc? say a bmp1 or bmp2 rolled up on an AAV, I would think the AAV would deploy smokes and hightail it out of there. Does this sound right to anyone?

well, the LAV isn't the worse vbf2 vehicle ever (and its handling is actually superior to most PR vehicles, very smooth) So it would be fun to complement eachother. Maybe even remove a Bradley on Fallujah in favour of a LAV, then have AAVs spawn inI also hope the AAV7 doesnt replace the LAV but supplements it, after all the marines use both vehicles.

Re: [Vehicles] AAVP7A1 and AAVC7A1
no plans to replace the LAV-25 with the AAVP7A1, it will be kinda like the "light APC" for the USMC faction and the LAV-25 being more the medium APCcharliegrs wrote:I also hope the AAV7 doesnt replace the LAV but supplements it, after all the marines use both vehicles.

But you will most likley see all LAVs on Amphibious Assault maps being totally replaced by AAVP7A1s simply because they are far more realistic and faster in the water etc etc.

Re: [Vehicles] AAVP7A1 and AAVC7A1
Im not sure replacing the LAV-25 on muttra is such a good idea especially seeming these things are going to be going neck and neck against other APC's, from what iv heard they don't exactly measure up to the statuesque of armour protection these days, i don't practically want a repeat of quai river, Where all the LAV’s where replaced with strikers and subsequently got raped by the Chinese apc’s,
And the cobra does nothing much in this map, It effect on the battle is usually a few minutes before it shot down , so it really up to the APC's to protect the marines from the BTR's, and if this thing can't hack it against enother apc it has not place in muttra,
So if your down right determined to have them, on this map, at least give them some anti Apc capability’s.

Re: [Vehicles] AAVP7A1 and AAVC7A1
If you look at the armor penetration on the Mk.19 rounds you'll see it will probably do more damage than a normal 25mm round. Nonetheless it doesn't make sense having LAV's being launched from carriers. Plus, the LAV-25 completely obliterated the BTR-60 so it would be nice to see the AAV and the BTR-60 being sent head to head.
Also, will the AAVP7A1 have the ability to drop proper supply crates seeing it is such a huge vehicle IRL and the 8 player limit?
Is the vehicle also going to be fully to scale in game?
As Eddie's comparison points out, it will probably actually be more evenly matched now against MEC.'[R-DEV wrote:Eddie Baker;1180134']With regards to the Mk-19's 40mm high velocity, high-explosive dual-purpose grenade in comparison to the 25mm HEI-T (high explosive incendiary tracer, not HEAT) round of the Bushmaster:
25mm HEI-T / 40mm HEDP
Casualty Radius: 5m / 15m
Armor Penetration: INA / 51mm
Max Effective Range: 2000m (tracer burnout) / 1600m
Max Range: 3000m (self-destruct / air-burst) / 2200m
Not as much range on the Mk-19 and you really have to "lob" them to get them there, but when they do, more people get to share in the experience.

Re: [Vehicles] AAVP7A1 and AAVC7A1
Like I have said before I will not be doing a strait swap of LAVs for AAVs without considering all aspects of the map, much like when it came to the time to replace the BTR-90 with the BTR-60, I didn't do a strait swap there since if I did that, we would have only one BTR-60 in the map, where we current have 3 BTR-60s in the map.RHYS4190 wrote:Im not sure replacing the LAV-25 on muttra is such a good idea especially seeming these things are going to be going neck and neck against other APC's, from what iv heard they don't exactly measure up to the statuesque of armour protection these days, i don't practically want a repeat of quai river, Where all the LAV’s where replaced with strikers and subsequently got raped by the Chinese apc’s,

I will most likley be tweaking the types and numbers of APCs on both sides in order to balance the map.

Re: [Vehicles] AAVP7A1 and AAVC7A1
As much as I liked the layout with tanks and helis better, the US still have the TOW hummer left from that setup so that kinda balances everything out. You can't use the "idiot team-mate will crash/destroy X, Y and Z" argument cos if all of those parameters were covered we'd be left having line battles with FF off, because someone would inevitably complain about the capacity for people to teamkill still being in game.RHYS4190 wrote:Im not sure replacing the LAV-25 on muttra is such a good idea especially seeming these things are going to be going neck and neck against other APC's, from what iv heard they don't exactly measure up to the statuesque of armour protection these days, i don't practically want a repeat of quai river, Where all the LAV’s where replaced with strikers and subsequently got raped by the Chinese apc’s,

Anyway for one I've seen cobras stay in the air on Muttrah well over half an hour on several occasions, and there's nothing stopping the DEVs having an LAV spawn at the docks when that's capped if the US really need it.

yeah i know that mate, in Iraq there where report's that the mk.19 round did some surprising amount of damage to Iraqi armour when the round actually connected. But unfortunately it not that simple. there are other factor's then armour penetration, the mk.19 round as a very dramatic tendency to ark where as the 25mm fly's straighter and there for is more accurate and has a much greater range. so there not really on equal footing are they.

Yes, you're correct, however the gunner in the AAV will be able to compensate for that with a few spotting rounds.RHYS4190 wrote:yeah i know that mate, in Iraq there where report's that the mk.19 round did some surprising amount of damage to Iraqi armour when the round actually connected. The 14.5mm on the BTR will obviously still do significant damage, and is more accurate and has greater range, BUT on the other hand the Mk19 has a large splash damage radius which makes it great for the apartments etc. on Muttrah.
TBH I think this is going to be VERY balanced, depending on the road that Rhino takes with it.

Well we don't even know what it's like in game yet, it hasn't even been textured! I still can't wait to see this in game, it is such a cool looking vehicle...

replacing the LAVs with AAVs is a must on maps that have sea borne assaults. LAVs are not used like that, they are indeed amphibious, but not designed for being in the ocean. more like crossing rivers etc. LAVs are whats used for amphibious assaults from marine carriers.RHYS4190 wrote:Im not sure replacing the LAV-25 on muttra is such a good idea especially seeming these things are going to be going neck and neck against other APC's, from what iv heard they don't exactly measure up to the statuesque of armour protection these days, i don't practically want a repeat of quai river, Where all the LAV’s where replaced with strikers and subsequently got raped by the Chinese apc’s,
