depends, when there is risk of AA lock having a couple of choppers combine their flare power both protects the choppers more and allows them to go longer distances before having to reload since they can cover eachother, if its a BH it also means the door gunners can combine fire

if there is a risk of AAA/heavy ground fire, a heli convoy might get mashed increasing losses.

However for tasks such as resupply or transport having more than one chopper on the job has obvious advantages of speed, coordination or taking advantages of small windows of oppotuntity.

just make sure the pilots know what they are doing, so many times I've nearly been rammed up the butt because the pilot behind me couldn't keep his distance.

Heli convoys are a lot different from ground convoys. Convoys on the ground normally move in a straight line.

Generally aircraft fly in formations such as the line formation or that triangle formation thing. Choppers that move in a "follow the leader" formation are very easy to shoot down since they fly in an obvious path and normally are very tight together.

When I used the Tunguska on choppers flying in the "follow the leader" formation, on a training server, even though they fired flares, I was easily able take at least 2 down using my guns since it was a lot easier to lead them.

If helis don't fly in a "follow the leader" flight, they take a less obvious formation and path and they don't crunch up lessening the chance of an AA missile of killing more than 1 chopper. Of course this type of formation is a lot harder to maintain, requires a bit more coordination, and not much maps use more than 2 transport choppers.

Personally, I flew the cow in a formation with another cow in which I stayed a little behind him on his left side. The formation was not easy to maintain since I really could not see where his chopper was and I had to frequently use the side views to see where his chopper was to up. When we used flares, the flares were much more spread out than they would be in a "follow the leader formation."

Of course though, this is just a game and any choppers that fly in any type of formation would be impressive.

It depends, on one hand an enemy won't know what to do but on the other you cant get destroyed. Unless your on Insurgency, but that won't happen because there are no merlins on any GB vs Insurgents/rebals. Anymore

Srry there rudd never noticed your post there sorry there.

And also sorry there 503 missed yours to.

But both very thought out answers :)

On muttrah city, I was taking off and I guy rammed me killed like 20 people. It seemed to have the invasion laid off for about 10 minutes cause all the helis were destroyed.

Awesome video, some way it reminded me on a documentary film. When that old British man talks: "The Merlins are living in small groups like other helicopters, they often fly together in a strict line formation... If someone is not fast enough the hostile environment of qviling or their natural enemies like the PGZ95 or the 2K22M(Tunguska) can quickly end the Merlins life." Something like this. :-D

the convoy also works with a good tactic on Operation barracuda. use the trans choppers for cannon fodder while the attack choppers go in for the kill. Usually no one gets injured and the enemy is left dead

Killing the enemy sylently

1993 Mogadishu Operation (Can't remember the name of the Operation, but it was one where 2 Black Hawk Downs were shot and few Delta Force were killed in duty, I guess someone who has seen the movie knows what I'm talking about)

When you see a group of Merlins flying, you have to make a video.
If you happen to sit in an anti-air with a gun, good for you! :P
