***BF2 Registry Entries***

Post by I_am_a_Spoon »

I want to install PR, but first I need to install patches 1.41 and 1.5. The problem is that I never actually installed BF2 on the laptop I use to play it; basically, I installed it on my old computer and then lost the disk, so I transferred the BF2 folder to my laptop and downloaded a no-disk fix. That means that there are no registry entries for the patches to detect, and since I can't tell the patch installer where to find my BF2 folder, I'm basically stuck. :(

If I have to I'll buy the game off Steam, but as my internet plan is shit and downloading BF2 off Steam will shape it, I'd much rather tweak a few registry entries as I already have the game files.

Thanks in advance for any help.

For 32bit Windows:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]
"Language"="English"
"Locale"="en_US"
"InstallDir"="E:\\Battlefield 2"
"Version"="1.5"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
@="x9392____________________"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\wdc]
@="true"
For 64bit Windows:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]
"Language"="English"
"Locale"="en_US"
"InstallDir"="E:\\Battlefield 2"
"Version"="1.5"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
@="x9392____________________"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\wdc]
@="true"
Paste the code to a text file.
Replace the E:\\Battlefield 2 with your installation path (backslashes have to be written twice), the underscores with your CD key and the version number with whatever the game you have is updated to.
Save the file as bf2.reg.
Double-click on it and confirm registry import.

When I replace the underscores with the CD key, do I include "-"''s? Such as "ABCD-1234-ABCD-1234", or do I just type it like "ABCD1234ABCD1234"?

Cheers.

Try it both ways?

50% chance of getting right on the first try.

its not that simple for bf2 cd keys, its needs a 5digit code in front of the cd key that everyone has the same. I would need to find my .reg file at home to find it.

But your best way to get the cd key into your registry is using the .exe file in the bf2 supportdirectory that allows you to put in a cd key.

update : seems the poster above already inlcuded the digits : being x9392 , good stuff :)

so your key will look like x9392ABCD1234ABCD1234

Hi Guys,

I am also trying to get my PR working on a new laptop. I am wondering what my best option is. I no longer have original BF2 cd or key but have all the files from my old laptop. Can I simply copy the folders across and make some registry entries? I have tried to find BF2 for sale but no longer exists... and STEAM version looks a bit complicated as I am running win 7. I have even tried to download torrent for setup so I could reinstall but cannot locate my original cdkey or find 1 for purchase. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be awesome thanks! I have had enough of Call of duty and all these other lame FPS I just want my PR back on my new ASUS laptop :(
