gary got benched
i agree that before it was silly how gary could withstand direct hit from tank but other than that what the hell happened to it,, you finally give the insurgents a weapong to be feared and now its just a little bit more powerful than a bomb car,,, i dont know whos saying that the blast radius is the same but that is complete rubbish,, i was 30m from apc in open grass field detonate and it wasnt even smoking,,, had whole squad in the arches,, detonate not one kill,, chasing a humvee in the city, detonate as he goes around the corner from 20m and i wake up in hell with no virgins telling me i failed

A .303 round at +2500 fps will remove a leg if it impacts the mid to lower thigh, thus resulting in death for most circumstances
No word of a lie ever since i downloaded this mod on January, i havent gone near the BF2 icon lol!

gary used to be really scary and that was half the fun, now. i dont know the tension seems to have gone......... i hop he gets brought back at full spec. i mean look at the blast in bahgdad in 08' ti basically destroyed buildings upto 200m's away. if thats what a tonne of low grade fertilizer explosive can do, imagine what kind of damage a pair of 2000lbers will manage. gary should be devastating but not too hard to take out.

Re: gary got benched
/Not talking about 0.91 as I haven't come to experience it yet.
In 0.909 it was overpowered. Not even in an "oh let's make something scary for once" but in an "Oh **** I think I sees me a Gary out in the fog fire the tank shells oh god he's moved 5 meters out of the fog" *BOOM* -dead-
:/
It seemed to have as great a damage / kill radius as a JDAM strike (including static penetration), which was ridiculous for AFAIK it only had 500lbs bombs/artillery shells.
The bigger problem is probably the actual inclusion of the truck in question and it's strategic use in PR as opposed to in real life. In reality, you wouldn't have that "Oh it's team one ergo shoot it" mentality. Instead, the fact that everything is enemy (including civilians who are given rarely any of the rights and accordances granted by any war treaty) means that the only possible use the insurgent team can get out of their suicide bomb vehicles is to zerg rush them straight to the enemy.
I very much doubt as to this being "fixable", but until then the true cumbersomeness of the vehicle gives it a huge disadvantage as it's consistently being fired upon.

Re: gary got benched
i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post actual values/discussion about Gary from our test sessions if somebody in charge will think its the way to go, i think he will do it
but i can assure this issue was looked into and tested thoroughly
in regards of previous version of Gary, it could kill tank further than 100m

Re: gary got benched
I'm going to cop an infraction for this, but it's worth saying.
The Devs need to stop sucking Coalition dicks in Insurgency. Yes, we all want to win in these theatres IRL, but no, creating a game mode where one side sits around and furiously masturbates on the faces of the other isn't fun. Plenty of people still love the idea of Insurgents and Insurgency, but I don't believe there are many people who actually enjoy playing as Insurgents against a halfway competant Coalition team because it is always unbridled rape.
By far Gaza is the worst map ever added to PR in terms of balance. Having Israelis running around a map with superior weapons, two heavy tanks and APCs is beyond a joke when the Insurgents can scarecely manage to get a single weapon that can even cause the Tanks to break a sweat within a million yards of it. Let me put this as clearly as possible: if you want to create a faction that can't deal with tanks, don't give their opposition tanks unless you're going to give them something in return.
Giving Insurgents the all purpose Ambusher class which accounts for probably 100% of any viability Insurgents have at all is a terrible excuse for balance. You have successfully created a game mode where there is no actual incentive to do almost anything but spam mines and IED into every crevice, nook and cranny while desperately searching for bomb cars that for some CHRIST unknown reason your organisation didn't have the presence of mind to mark for you. In the absence of these two things, it is your responsibility to enhance the gameplay experience of the other team by losing firefights to them continuously.
Great fun.
On the other side, you never, ever fear insurgents. Why would you, they don't have any weapons that are of any concern to you. All you need to do is form a big ball of doom and roam around the map waxing the living fuck out of anything you come across. The only challenge is still the race against the clock, which is more a function of how organised your team is, and has relatively little to do with the actions of the Insurgent team, at least in public play.
That is all. I can't stand Insurgency anymore.

Re: gary got benched
Personaly I think gary is spot on now in 0.909 it was ludicrious as someone said and I have expericened killing a tank at 200m! now thats insane after taking a tow and a tank shot. what is a bit annoying playing as insurgents is the ak's suck agianst blufor weapons at range.
What I would like to see is perhaps cache count got upped back up to 10 and cache points lowering down to 15 instead of 25 just to give the insurgents more of a chance by draining bluefor of ticketts, as of right now bluefor always seem to win unless its korengal vally and they win by alot 100 to 150 tickets, no matter how many assets you may kill you just cant drain them!

Gary has a logical blast radius. Presuming its using Mk 82's it should have a Common Radius of ~80ft (2x Mk82 with a radius of 40 feet each) That works out to around 28 meters.
I do think it should be able to take a little more damage tho.

Re: gary got benched
gaza is not at all screwed for insurgents. gaza is a rather easy map for insurgents. once the tank goes into the city it's easy bombcar prey and there are LOTS of bombcars (2 every 20 minutes if im correct) plus a lot of rocks and rubble to hide mines in. if not used very wisely, a tank will not be up too long. sure, it can take a lot of rpgs but it also takes severe damage from every little bump. it WILL have to go back to main to repair. there are exactly two ways to get there so it should be possible to mine these?Truism wrote:I'm going to cop a....
IDF weapons are great, that is for sure. on beirut as russian it feels like insurgency sometimes as well

Re: gary got benched
My latest two experiences with GARY:
As BLUFOR: As a squad we were waiting just under one of the city entrances. GARY dirve directly on us and exploded. I was not more than 10-15 m. away when he xploded. While my all teammates died I only got dizzy. Not even bleeding. I go back and revived all my squad.
As REDFOR: I was driving the GARY in Karbala. (last night) I suddenly came face to face with a stryker. Even before he can react I exploded it. No more than 3-5 m. between us. I got my dead soul, team vehicle damage , 60 sec. spawn punishment and he got his EPIC GARY FAIL
What happened to GARY?

Truism, does have a point, the dev's are being too deferral to blue force. I know your really trying to make it a challenge the terrorists, add a bit of desperation to the mix, but most of the time you just get hopeless ness.
But there must be a balance, i really don't like playing a game mode where i all i can do is get slaughtered, What the point in playing when im basically going to get spawn camped?, I play pr to perfection, i enjoy making my contributions to winning battles. But i get none of that when playing on insurgency, I don’t find it fun to play a game mode, that simply impossible for me to make any kind of contribution what the point in fighting.
INS need more special weapons just to stop Blue force from becoming too dominate.
Once the blue force get organised and set up FOB and over watches on INS positions, forget it the battle is over already,
the old garry was not over powered, the blue force team get 10x the amount of assets we get, they got better guns, we get garry, seems fair to me. And seeming garry is really a hit or miss thing with a big spawn time it simply balances it self.
And YEAH the blue force need some thing to be scared of.
INFACT, INS need more weapons, like truck mounted AA guns, self propelled howitzers mounted on lorry’s,
Some thing to help stop the Blue force team camping.

agreed, i loved when gary had huge blast radius cuz the bluefor were so paranoid of him and always tripping out, now the regular bombcars are more devestating cuz they are smaller, faster and their blast radius is only a little less
also didn't the militia on fools road used to be able to move the field guns, yamalia would be a lot more fun if canadians and russians could do the same and insurgents would be a lot better at defending city entrances if they had one or two
