Behind enemy lines

Post by Arnoldio »

Well this is a little guide for doing some spec ops work.

First things first,

Squad set up
You do not want to have more than 3 guys in close proximity of the desired objective.

2 man sqad setup.

Officer, unscoped. Secondary weapon for critical moments, radio for spotting.

Specialist. Versatility, grappling hook and phosphorus more incendiary grenades.

3 man squad setup.

Rifleman /additional Specialist/Combat engineer. Added force if area is filled with enemies, depending on the objective.

4 man squad setup.

Marksman. Only needed in rare cases, out of range fire support.

That done, lets get to the basics.

Planning

Well the aim is to take down important enemy emplacements/routes/support.

Use of assets should be minimal and should not harm the rest of the team. Ask for transport or take a boat. Do not take land vehicles with armament on. For land travelling use motorcycles if avaliable., but ofcourse the most practical way is to go on foot. Less chance for enemy to hear and spot you.

First thing you want to do is, recon the area. Go far away from the area, at least 250m if possible. Seek for a palce from where you can see the target area really good. Less of the area you see, bigger the chance of surprise is, thus resultung in failing the mission in most cases. Reconing includes spotting with radio too. Let the team know what threats there are and what your plan is.

Plan your way in at least roughly, make sure there isnt alot resistance in the way.

Execution

Now the hard part.

Stay focused on the objective, be determined that you will achieve it. Listen to everybody in your squad, especially the SL, he should be the absolute leader and very skilled and able to predict.

Do it thorougly, be patient, consider all posibilities that could or could not work.

Use passive agression. Be swift, be accurate, dont waste time on decisions, you do that during the Planning phase. If something goes wrong, get a ride out, dont come back for a long time, or just dont come back...

Do not engage any targets, even if they saw you. Back away, hide, let them search for you and give up. If your or squadmates life is in direct danger, return fire, do not go seek for enemies, just kill those who are in your direct path. If in urban area, go through back streets, over the walls, try to loose them.

If you are close to an objective (FOB) and are pretty sure that the enemies are gone or you are able to neutralize all of them. Go and destroy it, then get out quickly. Prioritize objectives. FOBs are important for your infantry, TOWs are important for armour, AA is important for CAS and transport.

Leaving

After you have destroyed/eliminated the needed threats, do not focus on any secondaries, leave as fast as possible. Either RTB or change location and repeat everything from the start.

Notes:
All of this is pretty rough, its all up to your SL and the situation given. I tried to give some general advice of how to handle the situation. All of the execution lies heavily on observation.
Do not play agressive, neither defensive. Take every chance you an and you will be able to achieve victory with less problems.
If you get in trouble with enemies remember, its only 3 of you against an unknown force with ability to reinforce.
Also less people you have in your squad less chance of enemy spotting you will be. Also less stress on squadleader and less chance of the progress to be slowed down.

(I may add more as the time goes)

Keep in mind that you are still completing the objective eventually, being too far from the object can only hinder the team. Recon teams should no bigger than 3 players, that is to scout is to prevent from engagement, a bigger squad will result in a higher chance of being spotted.

I might use that, 4 people section - we go behind enemy lines, take out FOBs, put mines on main road and then go to the objective to capture it (AAS).
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

Also, try to have players who know what you are going to do and you can trust them!!??

Frustrating when you are behind enemy lines, stealth mode, and one of the members starts shooting at a guy far away and thus blow all your positions lol.

Happened to me a lot, so choose carefully the members of the squad !
The best victory is when the opponent surrenders of its own accord before there are any actual hostilities... It is best to win without fighting.

Thumbs up!
But if you have bad and uncooperative pilots its not gonna work. I mean, they fly you on the mountains, you wait, spot, advance and destroy but you need to get out of there too. And on that map, you cant depend much on aerial support with all the AA's lying around.

It also depends on map layout. On CQB maps you dont need a lot of people, everything can be done by 2, on larger open maps 3-4 does the job.

Sometimes I go behind lines with someone else just for the sake of bleeding tickets from the enemy or stalling their advancement, and on insurgency taking out caches/hideouts.

My preferred kit setup for a 2-man squad is either specialist-specialist or specialist-medic. The S-M layout allows for you to basically kill everyone and if you take a hit, get healed/revived, so you dont waste tickets yourself. Its also nice to help other squad with your medic if they are close and have been taken out. :)

Have to agree with this, I had a couple of recent rounds where me and a friend would go with a S - M setup and we would rack up crazy scoreswhile keeping the enemy annoyed and staling their advancement. The squad scores were something like 24 - 4. :-P
