Re: [Video] Tank Ambush
I don't see much to show off about here, just some boring camping.
Here's a general rule of thumb:
If the enemy's ability to maneuver is limited in such a way that his approach is predictable it's camping and in no way impressive. With LOS to within one grid of the spawn that pretty much makes this the case.
And stop whining about people calling you out on this boring video, you're the one who posted it.

Re: [Video] Tank Ambush
I'm with Tartantyco on this one.
There wasn't any intelligence to use, you were so close to their spawn they had to come straight down at you, and obviously they're going to engage if you're there. Obviously you're free to do whatever you want, but I'm pretty sure most servers wouldn't allow it with good reason.

From the other side, wouldn't the spawning armor have some idea that's where the guy was? I do not know that map, but is it like a box canyon where that is the only way out of the spawn point?

Re: [Video] Tank Ambush
Strat is legit... and after the first tank was downed there they should have moved another route or live/die with the consequences.
I remember one situation in the PRT when NATO managed to lase our tanks when they left the base and were out of the "no-fire-zone" on their route to the battlefield, of course still "close" to our base.
This was annoying for us of course but a perfect legit strategy to control our armor supplies etc.
I dont see a problem with it... for the first tank it's the shit but well if a team let's 3 tanks move undected around there it's their problem.
This is legit until they move really close and there is no other way possible for the tanks to move - here though they can use a different route.

Most people always complain when they get killed. Instead of whining, do something about, like get an officer kit and laze the enemy tanks for CAS. Boom, teh tarp has been removed.

Re: [Video] Tank Ambush
They could of gone a number of ways, the way they did go was exposed, if they had even gone about 50m to their east they would of been safe because they would never of seen us. It's not camping when they can move around you, and in any case, so what if it is? It's a realistic tactic that requires intel, comms, and teamwork, and PR is about realism, intel... comms... and.... teamwork.....Tartantyco wrote:I don't see much to show off about here, just some boring camping.

@ HunterMed - we must of been detected, we blew up lots of stuff before that, they obviously just chose to ignore the fact we were there
Pariel - most servers DO allow it, and with good reason. We were quite far away from their main, and we were well within the combat area, we moved literally about 100-200m away from where we had been engaging targets before. We used intel, we knew that all of their TOWs were down and that there was no enemy units in the area except their armour.

Perhaps you should've asked the thread be locked if you didn't want any opinions that differ from your ownHerbiie wrote:During this thread I've been accused of base camping and had my intelligence insulted.
Uh, according to the video you posted, right there @ 13 seconds, the map clearly shows this white rectangular thing with an orange pentagon upon it. This is the current objective and thus, the 'battle' as such. And grunts make up the lion's share of the team anyway, and thus I'd class their engagements as the major fight and your foray near the enemy tank spawn as a side mission.Herbiie wrote:Please don't tell me where the fighting is in a match I played and you didn't. E5 is where our infantry is, apparently according to some people, but that doesn't mean all the fighting is where our infantry is does it?
You're well entitled to disagree with my opinion, but that doesn't make either of us right or wrong, that's the beauty of subjectivity and the wonderful freedoms that we enjoy to be able to express our opinions. I use the 'vet' to succinctly refer to someone who has played this game for a considerable period of its development, it's three letters versus ~50 and saves a bit of time/effort. There is no superiority complex on this side of the fence, don't worry... your tactics are just as legit as anyone else's, whether we/he/they may regard them as cheap or not. The only person's opinion that actually matters is the admin of the server you're on.Herbiie wrote:Your opinion is what I disagree with, and I think it's typical of the so-called "vets" of a game (Tbh calling yourself a Vet of a game is kinda silly) that simply because this isn't how the game usually goes it is unfair and not general "etiquette" (It must be very impolite to destroy your enemy assets before they can use them).

Because our team is engaged in close quarter fighting 100% of the time isn't it?Psyrus wrote:Uh, according to the video you posted, right there @ 13 seconds, the map clearly shows this white rectangular thing with an orange pentagon upon it. Also, in PR, armour ALWAYS has it's own separate battlefield, they knew we were in the area, and if they didn't that was their fault.

I'm somewhat confused, what do you mean?Herbiie wrote:Because our team is engaged in close quarter fighting 100% of the time isn't it?
You don't seem to be understanding, there's a difference between voicing an opinion that your tactics were cheap and saying they are wrong, so please don't misconstrue what I'm saying, what you did is in the acceptable section of the tactics-that-could-be-used (in fact it's probably in that section of use-to-win) but some people have differing views on how the game can be played to maximize enjoyment for everyone involved in the game, not just the individual, the squad or the teamHerbiie wrote:Also, in PR, armour ALWAYS has it's own separate battlefield, they knew we were in the area, and if they didn't that was their fault.

While I feel this should be "'nough said," I would like to point out why I feel this is in no way cheap.CBT02 wrote:to all who oppose the tactic used in this video .... maybe u should play farmville also ...

Imagine the map being the front lines of a battle with the DOD corners of this map being the route of supply to the front lines. Both corners of the maps have terrain blocking view inside the DoD and offer an off road route that is forested, hilly, and etc.
The obvious route for a supply convoy to reinforce the front lines would be the main road. The obvious move of an attacking army would be to shut down this main road, hence ambush. From that, the most obvious thing to do would be to scout out the main road for any ambush in wait, and if found go another way.
What these russian tanks did was stupid past the first two vehichles down. They had learned about the ambush and still thought moving along open and 'flat' terrain towards their ambushees was the smartest idea.
They deserved to die and lose those tickets.

Re: [Video] Tank Ambush
The battle ground isn't just where our units are - generally in PR a fire fight is about 100-300m away from the enemy, right? So our troops may have been a long way away, but the enemies troops (I think you will agree that the enemy is a fairly important part of an engagement ) could of been much closer. As it is I can't remember where their guys were, but I'd guess at the northern side of the village, which is just over the hill behind us.Psyrus wrote:I'm somewhat confused, what do you mean?

Re: [Video] Tank Ambush
It is just simply bad map design if people can camp a main base.
