Yeah, kind of. Why bother repainting the whole thing anyway, it doesn't change its function. On the other hand - it is just a little something to keep the memory of these as the late Soviet era machines and the key role they served. I suppose Mi -24 Hind also have these stars. Tell me if I am wrong.BOBA_fat wrote:I noticed there's red star up on the christmas......no i mean there are red stars on the sides of both mi-8 and mi-17,don't red stars stand for USSR ?im just saying ,lol

I'm just thinking those icons may be important during conflict in real life. A national icon tells the difference between enemies and allies, but doesn't matter in game

"Hinds were not used in USSR, only Mi-24" - analogy of your post
Mi-17 designation was given only due to commercial-advertisement needs and appeared when Mi-8MT was introduced to the west in Paris airshow in 1981, the difference between Mi-17 and brand new Mi-8MT- name and nothing more
MIL moscow helicopter plant, JSC
have fun readingIn 1981 the Mi-8MT made its international debut at the 34th Paris Air Show. For advertising and marketing reasons the export version was allocated a new designation, Mi-17, under which it has gained a foothold in the world market. A passenger version with an interior similar to that of the Mi-8P was named Mi-17P. Like its predecessor, the baseline Mi-8MT served as a basis for developing numerous variants for various military and civil duties.

red stars stay, but now they are surrounded with white and blue edging, thus using colours of russian flag. also army uses red banners with golden stars.
