Jormdarreh Range [WIP]

Post by Amok@ndy »

Time for my first Highlight :)

First of all I want to thank everyone who helped me with testing my map, giving feedback and especially [R-CON]Rudd for his awesome helipads and [R-DEV]Hans Martin Slayer for his time and giving me a huge load of feedback. I hope I havent forgot someone if so im sry and I will edit this post to insert you :) .

To the map: Its an 4km Insurgency map featuring Taliban vs. GB (as an placeholder for German Forces). The GamePlayObjects are not finished yet and the Event on 13th will help me to figure out if the Taliban need more vehicles or less. The New Era Warfare Community is hosting a server for me feel free to join us to fight the first big battle on this map.

Let me go clean my pants, my inner workings couldn't handle getting a new map.

Why are people excited about this at all? It just looks like any other map. I see nothing special about it that makes me want to play something else. It's 4km of the same bland terrain with little towns in between. This'll be hell for insurgents when the Tiger comes hovering over the cache.

No offense to the map maker, but this really could use some tuning. It doesn't have it's own look. It's bland and unoriginal; another typical Afghanistan themed map. We need maps that have their own look, that have a landmark that is completely recognizable for that map only. When I see these screenshots, I could have easily mistaken them for Kashan Desert, Korengal Valley, or Lashkar Valley. I know it's WIP right now, but please make sure you do some fixing up before releasing it.

Excavus, the whole point of the map night is to find out how this plays.

It looks like a fantastically well made map from a technical perspective, looks realistic to me, and has plenty of cover to hide under.
another typical Afghanistan themed map.
if you don't want Afghan maps I suggest you learn how to map yourself and give us maps from a different location.

I for one am looking forward to this, and I'm really interested in seeing how it plays out.

No. I cannot download it or play it as I am on vacation in Italy for about 2 more days. That shouldn't matter anyways.

Honestly, all you need is more detail. Everything is too spaced out looking from the screenshots and minimap. I can tell perfectly well just looking at the screenshots that it is bland and uninteresting. Where's the water? Don't tell me mountain people don't drink?

Take Lashkar Valley for example. This map is recognized for it's bright sky and it's forking river. It has many little streams and beautiful green fields. Now look at this map, and describe it to me without telling me the color of the dirt.

The Apache/Tiger(Only IF the German Forces ever come out) will be a big problem, as most of them never get in close to kill insurgents. They will be far out of range up high, using BVR fire with a spotter.

Don't give me that "map it yourself" ****. I know perfectly well that if I do try to map, it would never be played. Nobody would care for it and it would be lost talent.

I never said I didn't want Afghan maps. I want a more interesting Afghan map. Not all of Afghanistan is long fields and high mountains using the typical color of gray and brown.

Take a look at these pictures, and compare:

Jormdarreh Range

Lashkar Valley

I can already tell which one is more detailed and interesting.

Ehhh no not really. Every single mapper in PR, including myself was simply part of the PR community who decided to make a map for PR.

Providing the map is good enough, up to PR standards and you have the right attitude we are looking for in a mapper (works as a team, takes direction well etc) then there is no reason why we wouldn't include your map into the mod and you also wouldn't become part of the team.

I would not go to all the trouble to make all these tutorials etc for people to learn how to map if nothing was ever going to come of it...

We're spoiled rotten with 4x4km Afghanistan maps.

looking good, I like the amount of villages and the details you seem to have given them

oh and excavus: feel free to post constructive critism but don't forget to post your cv or diploma which states that you are an expert on how the jormdarreh range looks like.

I'm not looking for total realism to the square inch here. It doesn't even have to look remotely like Jormdarreh, which is a place I never knew existed. I just want it too look more interesting, not just bland mountainous terrain, trees, and villages.
