My problem also had to do with a router.dergammla wrote:Thanks for your help but I fixed it now.
My router's configuration after a reset were to disconnect for a short time after every 5 minutes so I had to fix only this little option and it now works perfectly. Unfortunately I didnt check the configuration after the first two resets. My VoIP isnt working though...
I had 10-minute-internval-hanging-problem when I had computer connected like this:
inteno 4port modem/router -> belkin router -> computer
MY PROBLEM IS GONE when i have this connection:
inteno 4port modem/router -> computer
(I have the belkin router to get a wifi-connection to a HTPC.
My suggestion is you should check router settings and maybe another router.
Good luck!

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
Hello everyone.
I just wanted to share how I "fixed" the "your connection to the server has been lost" when entering a server problem for me. The way I'm doing it is by disabling VON when I start the game and then re-enabling it once inside the server.
I'm running XP sp3 behind a SMC router + COMODO firewall with a Realtek on-board sound card, and this is the only way I've managed to avoid this problem.
I hope this helps others and detecting the problem.
Best regards,
NewOrder_JoyDivision.

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
My problem is that when I join a server I get a small popup in the screen saying 'There is a problem with your connection.' every 60 seconds, it goes after about 3 seconds and then comes back a minute layer. I have tried reinstalling punkbuster, opening ports, configuring the firewall, etc and nothing.
This happens even on servers where I have a ping of 20-30.
I am using a wireless connection.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on. PR must be in it's moody stage with me. I can connect to TG and HOG but not Hardcore or New Era or NwA. So when TG dies down and the rest flood to Hardcore I proceed to the exit or really hope they feel like playing on Muttrah 24/7.

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
Right , After playing BF series for about 4 years i have all ways came across this error " You have lost connection to the server"
And there is only ONE way to fix it and that is to disable VOIP in game.
I dont know why but it works and always has done.
Last week i reinstalled everything (OS etc) and the first game i installed was BF2 and PR.
I forgot to disable VOIP and was unable to join servers that had 20+ players in.
BUT if there was about 20< i could join the server just fine and play until it was full (64/64).
But if i wanted to join a server with 40/65 on i would not make it past the selection screen because of "You have lost connection to the server"
Disabling VOIP sucks i know but if you want to play this game you will have to

Yeah disabling VOIP helped me too! Having it enabled while joining most servers gave me Connection Prob and dropped me of right after loading. Now everytime before I join a server I disable it and after I'm connected I go to menu and reanable VOIP. Works flawless for me and I never get Con. Probs. during a round!

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
Hi all,
I've been browsing through these magnificent forums recently, and decided I should share the following.
I have experienced tremendous difficulties with this infamous "There is a problem with your connection" showing up immediately after I join a server. Some days I haven't been able to join a single server in BF2 vanilla or PR despite trying for hours, some days I have been able to play but it has seemed strangely random. Mostly failures, though.
I have tried everything mentioned here and elsewhere (believe me, I've browsed quite a bunch of forums and such in search of an answer, for a couple of weeks now!), but nothing has worked. Yet. However, I think I have found something that helped me.
Now, the background: Vista 64-bit, 3Mb cable connection, good enough rig to run the game smoothly on high settings. Wired to a Thomson TCW710 cable modem.
Today I noticed that pingtest.net gives me HUGE packet loss immediately after a failed try to join a BF2 server. The packet loss then declined to 0, only to rise again to almost 95% after another try. Interesting!
I went to the modem settings, and noticed that it has a firewall of its own. Fair enough! However, there was also this thing called "IP Flood Detection", and it was enabled. I disabled that from the modem settings.
Suddenly I can join BF2 servers again! There is no more "There is a problem with your connection". NOTE: I haven't yet tested PR servers, but I expect them to behave similarly, at least it has been so before.
I think this has something to do with VOIP being detected as a DoS attack by some modem firewalls. That would explain why for some people disabling VOIP has helped. Disabling VOIP didn't help me, but then again I don't have a mic and I can't even enable the VOIP option anymore as it immediately reverts back to "disabled" in the options. What I must emphasize is that the problem was in the modem's own firewall, not the firewall software on my computer.
If however I get the connection problems again, I will report back. Meanwhile, I suggest that some people go and try this. I hope it helps!

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
I've been having this problem ever since I first installed BF2 and it's very frustrating as I really want to play the Project Reality modification. Basically, whenever I try connecting to a server, I get the message which states that I couldn't connect to the server and that I should check my network connection(s) and try again. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could help.
Thanks in advance,
Netzeek.

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
I bought a license for BF2, put on his patch PR, while trying to connecting to any server kicks me to the desktop without any errors, PR simply terminates. But a single game (the game with bots) are no problem

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
I'm having a problem with my wireless.
I seem to only get these problems playing PR.
Now we all know how dodgy it is to game with wireless but I am having to make due for the time being. Now, I don't really lag in online games, but as soon as I step into PR my ping will spike to 100-999 for 5-30 seconds. I alt tab out and can't browse the net at all, even though I'd previously been on it all day/night browsing fine.
There is something going on with this game but I can't put my finger on it.

Re: Connection Problem Troubleshooting
@rough77 - i think, that's you that i was trying to talk yesterday about your issue, with no result
There could be a lot of possibilities. Mine was wifi n-mode, that I had to switch off in my router settings to get rid of problem - my router or wifi-card has some troubles with it. I have PC connected via ethernet cable to my laptop which is connected to router via wifi.
Go on a server, and ping your router in a background:
ping -t 192.168.0.1 (find out your router ip yourself) - that will check if there is some router issue.
You might try pinging external address - that will check problems with ISP.
My ping to router was sometimes reaching 18000ms, that was when I got disconnected - seems like some packets gets lost in time for some reason. I figured out that my laptop is kinda old, might not be able to use n-mode, furthermore normal response time of my router/modem was kinda big (about 5ms instead of ~1ms), which lead me to conclusion that I should try to disable all the things that could slow down response time - switching between modes, using processing-hostile things.
If it's a router issue - mess with its wifi settings. Disable all the 'modern' stuff, disable those 'adaptive' things, switch to less copute-hungry things.
Also remind yourself what changed on network or system when you started to get those disconnects. That will be really helpful.
That's all I know about this. What's your router/modem?

My router ist the "Unitymedia Connect Box" vom my provider "UPC". As written I had no connection issues with other games so far, also I did not have them with further PR versions.
My PC is from 2017, running very stable and smooth on win10.
I've made a ping test with an average of 43 - so I think that's also not the issue.
Will try to reinstall PR..
