- Armor going within LOS of the bunker complex when the enemy armor is still active. Worst. Idea. Ever.
- Tanks going on top of mountains, ignoring the fact that AFVs have some very nice and useful optics.
- Armor that goes over hills instead of around them. It is not that hard to avoid this, and this can save your bacon so easily.
- People that blindly charge in open fields. Try doing this as infantry, it is pretty much the same deal.
- People that don't understand that armor is not protection, terrain is the true protection.

Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
Here are a few of the grievous mistakes that I often see amongst armor crewmen, especially in Tank/IFV battles in Kashan.

Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
sometimes the drivers don't know what the gunners are seeing.
drivers have higher point of view than gunner,so they usually think hiding behind the building and poking a small part of the turret out it's a good idea, what will happen is the gunner can't see a thing while the driver is yelling enemy tank like a biach.
and some gunners try to kill a tank by hitting it in the frontal armor, that may take up to 4 APFSDS
one last thing
STOP SAYING "YOU AIM HIGH" ,it's a engine glitch, drivers always see the shell fly higher.
btw turret is one of the hardest parts of a tank, hitting it with a TOW does not garantee a kill

Hunter is ...well .....being a hunter.
So ask yourself, how does prey act ?
Everything he listed could be a great position, if and ONLY if, you the tanker know what you are facing as you crest that hill.
If you don't ?
Put it this way, you have a shoulder-mounted 7.62 chain gun....would you walk into a dark basement if there was even a the faintest possibility the Predator was down there ?
Hell no !
You send a Red-Shirt to check it out first.

But given that as a reality ( pun intended ) what do you suggest we ( big tent "we" ) do about it ?

Get an armour squad with 3 tanks and teach them how to be better. You own enemy team and everybody is happy.

Because they don't have Mumble to communicate constantly without annoying the rest of the squad?
Because we're computer gamers who often lacking in patience?

How ?ChizNizzle wrote:Get an armour squad with 3 tanks and teach them how to be better. You own enemy team and everybody is happy.
How do you get 5 guys to listen to you ?
And more important................what do you tell them ?
What if they aren't all together ?
Do you risk losing armor pulling back to a rally point position so you can consolidate ?
The guy asked a question.
If you have a good answer, I would like to hear it.
Barring that, I would I like to hear a reason I shouldn't ridicule every half-assed, puerile suggestion so far ?

Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
Although "the guy" is not asking this in a serious way as he absolutely knows how to operate with armour but is rather expressing the latest bad experiences he had...here we go:
Current system:
There is a penalty for loosing armour. It costs your team many vital tickets.
And if loosing an asset you get a penalty for yourself with negative points. Which can be seen on the scoreboard.
Problem is:
The same players that simply rush in with vital assets do not care about tickets. And always have an excuse for negative scores if you ask them.
Possible solutions that have been suggested before:
* You need a special training or rank ingame before you are allowed to operate assets.
* CO assigns assets to players he trust.
I`m sure there are more ideas. But most of all of them can`t be done as they might be abused or the engine doesn`t allow it to be implemented.
What can be done?
* Discussions like this one here or in there: Armor Tactics - Project Reality Forums and even ingame (if you find people that listen to you) so people understand why it is shit.
* More people playing the game seriously (and using mumble) on good administrated servers where admins have an eye on what is going on.
* More training sessions or events like they are done here: PR Event News - Project Reality Forums
* Wait for next gen version of PR with engine and system that improves the situation.

Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
I am mostly crewman of armor in kashan and i am driver. For me, using the tank is question of luck. I can leave 3 or more tanks at battlefield or play whole round with only one tank and smoke out any one. (Mostly after first hit, I am RTB)

Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
Giving admin the ultimate power to kick players if they are using armor not the way he likes is a bad idea. If player does not braking the rules (baserape, solo etc) he may operate the way he like. It is a public server. There never will be pure teamwork because people are too different with their ambitions, etc. Yes, team will suffer if he is noob or whatever (stupid).Bonsai wrote: * More people playing the game seriously (and using mumble) on good administrated servers where admins have an eye on what is going on.
The only way to organize teamplay - clanwar and tournaments. Everything is organized in military way. You must follow orders with no exceptions and you are sure that sqd ld and commander aren't fools.
Just let people have fun on public servers. Don't abuse them with your suggestions.

Better driver-gunner communication is essential, as is the aforementioned "terrain-as-cover-smarts"....

I blame the fact that a crew that knows each other well (friends, clan, etc) always does better than 2 strangers. When ever I go armor on Kashan you better bet im gonna be on Skype talking to my gunner/driver and that always gives my tank the upper hand.

Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
Proper use of Mumble can still negate pretty much any advantage the enemy might have, barring of course similar communication. A while back I jumped in a tank with a total stranger on Kashan, and having most of the team (and more importantly, all squad leaders) on Mumble we proceeded to destroy everything on the enemy team, despite us being the only tank on the US side for the entire round. In a couple of hours we racked up around 50 kills, most of them vehicles, and lost just a single tank when we got tracked.ma21212 wrote:I blame the fact that a crew that knows each other well (friends, clan, etc) always does better than 2 strangers. Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
Lack of communication, mainly relaying of armour co-ords imo. The skill of the driver and gunner only goes so far and about half of people in armour I consider to be good.
Spend a lot of time having to blindly enter an area that is hot without the nearby inf telling me what is around. Couple this with very large open maps like Kashan which allow flanking up to a km on every side and you're screwed if you're against a good team.
Now I can understand why this thread is up but why isn't there an air assets being used poorly thread? I see about 90% used poorly and 5% used properly.

Re: Why does everyone do so poorly with armor?
Agreed on the communications part. It will make you a better armor crew instantly.
But will not make you a useful weapon.
Only if you use this (now good working tool) to help your team in any way you will help to win. One effective armor piece doesn't help you against 2 or 3 of those on the other side. Or if you keep this tool away from where it is needed to help your inf (and air).
