PR is not responding and can't run

Post by Stadtherz »

Greetings!

I encountered the following problem:

When I run PR shortcut, the PR logo appears, which freezes and then disappears. And the PR does not start.

The game was installed on a freshly installed Windows 7 x64.

During the installation of PR no errors occurred.
During the installation of Battlefield 2 warning appears that the game is tested only on Windows XP x32.
In the process of updating DirectX inevitably there was an error. Which I understand is the fact that Windows 7 is equipped by Direct X 11.

Tried to run the PR from the directory through pr.exe.
It did not help.

Tried to clear the profile folder BF2.
It did not help.

I have tried completely removing and reinstalling the BF2 and PR, removing Punkbuster. And at the end of the installation of PR refused to update Punkbuster.
Still does not work...

Tried to run the PR from the Community menu of BF2. The PR runs. However, after the logon screen, the PR is recommended run it through the pr.exe and not through bf2.exe

After that, the problem remains unsolved :(

So if you have any suggestions on how you can help me please write it here.

Best Regards, Stadtherz

Have you tried to run PR as Administrator ?

Yes of course.
And with different compatibility mode, too.

Post the contents of prError.log in your PR directory.

Also if it hangs like that , try booting your task manager and seeing if pr.exe is still running. Close it down. then try running again.

Also wait 30 seconds to a minute before trying to launch it again.

prError.log contains a record:

System.ArgumentException: Имя папки C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/Default не допускается.
в System.IO.FileSystemWatcher.set_Path(String value)
в o..ctor(String A_0)
в g.a(String[] A_0)

There is some russian words that mean:

System.ArgumentException: Folder Name C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/Default not allowed
в System.IO.FileSystemWatcher.set_Path(String value)
в o..ctor(String A_0)
в g.a(String[] A_0)

Thanks [R-DEV]Twisted Helix whose answer helped me understand what the problem is.

For me the decision was a copy from the Default folder in the C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/ from C:\Users\Stadtherz\Documents\Battlefield 2 (thats my user login).

And now everything works.

Nevertheless, I must test the solution for some time, to make sure everything is stable

I copied the content of the ORIGINAL BF2 file (in program files, ea games) into my documents, if thats what you meant. Still nothing.

No need to change anything in Programm files\ea games and so on.

How many user profiles on Win7 do you have?

I'll try to explain more intelligibly.

I have 2 user profiles in Win 7. 1st is my Admin profile, 2d is my User profile (Stadtherz). I installed BF2 and PR on my User profile. So BF2 create configuration files in my C:\Users\Stadtherz\Documents\Battlefield 2 folder.

But, for some unknown reasons PR took BF2 config files (such as Audio.con, Profile.con, Video.con etc.) from my admin's documents directory C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/ where they were not.

So, I put it from user's folder to admin's.

Then try to create folder on the path "C:\Users\Admin\Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles" and copy to it Default folder with your config files.

Hope it will help you.

You need to run BF2 once, login/make a profile, THEN start PR
