Muttrah: An MLTB Story
It all began Sunday evening on October 17th as my friend from back home, JQDaniels, and I joined the MEC coalition in a fight against the US Marines at the city of Muttrah. Although we had considered sniping, fate would have it that during the last four seconds, I created a squad named "30mm LAV." Fate continued to smile upon us as we managed to claim the asset, and little did we know what victory lay ahead of us. At the start of the round, the APC had not spawned, so, seeing that there were no other armor squads, JQDaniels and I crewed an MLTB (the 12.5mm) in order to help defend the Docks.
Our first kill of the round was a single US soldier who we ran over, thanks to my amazing driver JQDaniels. Following that, we provided covering fire for the MEC as they attempted to hold off the American advance. However, danger soon approached, as we saw the dreaded US AAVP7 drive by, so we returned to base, since our main gun would do no good against it. After a few minutes, we returned to the base to claim our 30mm prize, and lo and behold, another player, flyerfly, had created a squad called ARMOR and was attempting to steal our asset. Unfortunately, no admins were available to kick him from the server. We continued to argue with this player, who complained about us locking the squad, even though there is only ONE 30mm MLTB on the map, and with the support of our team, he eventually agreed to trade vehicles with us, since we claimed the asset first. Little did he know what fortunes he would bestow upon his teammates by granting us the use of the 30mm MLTB.
This was the first time I gunned in the 30mm MLTB, and I quickly got the feel of it. Daniels did a superb job spotting targets for me as the driver, and we worked together as a team to keep the vehicle alive. Soon, we heard the tracks of a familiar APC, and I switched to AP rounds. We saw the APC rush in front of us, and we gave pursuit. As we turned the corner, I could not see the vehicle, and suddenly we started taking fire from behind. I swung the main cannon around and quickly dispatched the AAVP7 with the main gun as an orange fireball erupted from it. We returned to base to rearm and repair, and while we sat at the repair station, flyerfly, the new Commander of the MEC, who was probably upset that he did not get to use his toy, tossed a grenade at us. We then quickly proceeded to help our troops at the front. Soon we had wrecked another AAVP7, and on the way home, Daniels typed "all your aavps are belong to us."
Following that, we continued to harass the US Marines with our 30mm gun as the kills kept mounting. Infantry seemed to think that they were invisible as they would often lie prone on the street while the 30mm rounds exploded around them. Daniels stopped the vehicle as there were mines on the road. We decided to hold for a minute. As we sat and waited for our prey, the AAVP7, I suddenly heard a beeping noise. I asked Daniels if that sound came from his microphone, and I swung the cannon around. I jumped in my chair as I saw a lone US Marine, prone on the ground, facing the rear of our vehicle, and holding a detonator, and I thought that certain death awaited me and Daniels. Yet fate continued to bring us fortune as the blast of the C4 sent the Marine flying thirty meters backwards while Daniels and I remained safe in the armor of the MLTB. We returned to base to repair, and I laughed at the memory of the "n00b" Marine who ended his life with his own C4 charge.
After a short repair of our vehicle, Daniels and I returned to the front to assist our troops in the struggle against the Marines. After Daniels had run over yet another US soldier, we proceeded South along the coastline to rearm the main gun, and we narrowly escaped the blast of an AGM-114 Hellfire from the Cobra, which landed on the rooftop of a building behind us. Daniels quickly swerved to the right to place us in the cover of the buildings. After rearming completely, Daniels and I gathered our courage together to return to the front, despite the danger of the Cobra. Using the buildings to our advantage, we continued to lay waste to the enemy infantry as they attempted to advance beyond the gas station. Suddenly, out of the sky, the Cobra appeared, and I quickly switched to AP rounds. To the pilot's misfortune, after a few hits from the main gun, the Cobra exploded in flames and came crashing down onto the ground below as I let out a shout for joy.
We returned to the base to rearm and celebrate for a short moment at our outstanding performance as I typed "all your cobras are belong to us." We continued to decimate the US forces and their AAVP7s, one of which came close to destroying us. As we waited near our troops, I spotted a CAS Huey flying overhead. As he attempted to return to base, I placed some AP rounds in the cockpit, and the pilot slumped forward as his Huey spun slowly onto the ground and exploded. We also managed to destroy a transport Huey that was hovering near a building in front of us.
The Americans continued to fight bravely as their squads fell victim to our 30mm MLTB. Some of our troops manned two BTR60s, which we found destroyed, and Daniels and I became worried. However, we managed to kill at least two HAT kits before we decided to transport Squad 4 to North City. In return for the transport, we asked Squad 4 to check the street corners for us in case there were HATs or TOWs present. Although two men from Squad 4 were wounded, including the Squad Leader, Daniels and I managed to avenge them and provide cover for the medic who revived them. Soon, the MEC had managed to take the Docks area. We drove around Docks, slaughtering the few remaining American troops who provided a futile resistance. As we returned to base for rearming, Daniels received credit for yet another roadkill, and after almost 2 hours, the MEC claimed victory over Muttrah city.
At the round's end, Daniels had killed 4 enemy soldiers, I had received credit for 42 kills, and neither of us had been wounded or killed for the duration of the round. It was not without risk, though, as we had been damaged by the AAVP7 multiple times, and we were hit by LAT rounds twice. Although Daniels and I managed to destroy 5 AAVP7s, 1 Cobra, 1 CAS Huey, 1 Transport Huey, and dozens of infantry, it was not only by our efforts that the MEC achieved victory. It was thanks to the valiant efforts of members of our team, specifically flyerfly who so kindly granted us the use of the MLTB and Squad 4, who checked the corners for us during dangerous times. It was thanks to the brave souls who fought against the hordes of Marines that came rushing out of the docks. It was also thanks to Daniels who introduced me to PR and taught me how to survive. Finally, and most importantly, it was thanks to the developers of the Project Reality team, who so kindly introduced the 30mm MLTB and the AAVP7, that we were able to finish the best round in our history of playing PR.

Re: Muttrah: An MLTB Story
Great story! Love your descriptions of your engagements.
I briefly used the 30mm MLTB on Muttrah before a squad started yelling at us to give it back(was a 2 man locked squad
). Feels like the lovely BTR-90 that use to to haunt the streets.

Thank you for the reply! We had a great time. Honestly, that round set a record for us both. Do you think the 30mm MLTB is overpowered or did we just get lucky? lol

Re: Muttrah: An MLTB Story
Not really sure if it was just a disorganized team or what. The fire rate on it though reminds me of the BTR-90 that was feared. I wouldn't say it is over powered, just needs to be dealt with in a new way players will adapt to. PR isn't supposed to be a balanced game after all, there is a degree, but not necessary like vanilla BF2 was.
Pretty impressive score though.

Definately not an overpowered vehicle as it can be damaged from small arms fires (evens pistols)
Some skill involved, and some luck (guy with C4

Re: Muttrah: An MLTB Story
I don't remember the BTR-90, but I do remember the LAV-25. That was my favorite vehicle to use on Muttrah, but as the MEC it caused entire squads to cower inside the buildings whenever it drove by. A disorganized team? Most definitely. We should not have been able to kill a Cobra AND a CAS Huey. Honestly, those were just bad pilots or people just don't fly very well after midnight.
Smiddey, the C4 part was hilarious. It's too bad that I wasn't recording at the time. I literally lol'ed.
