[Weapon] Mount for 12.7mm HMG (M2) [WIP]

Post by cid228 »

As the topic states, I started on a mount for the 12,7 mm mitralj?se HPS, aka Browning M2HB. The mount is pretty much used where-ever the gun is used by Norway (correct me if im wrong!) and Sweden, and lessens the recoil when firing.

The references used from scratch come from www.soldf.com depicting the swedish version.
I later got sent much better references of the norwegian version, wich im not going to post unless I get permission from the owner.
There are a few differences between the ref's, and I might change the model to suite the norwegian version better, depending on the purpose of the parts differing, and if it's consistent throughout the norwegian arsenal.

The model itself right now consists of 4 pieces, the *Mount itself, the *Pivot (?), the *Sights and the *Gun (from PR, I take no credit for the Gun)
The tris are at 3489 for LOD0, but can probably be reduces some if needed (, especially on the cylinders.)
Of these 3489 tris, the mount+pivot is 1374 tris and sights are 229 tris.

(nope, ur not going to see the tris right now!)

I have some tweaking of the proportions left to do, some reducing of tris and last but not least the UV-mapping.

If anyone know this mount personally dont be affraid to comment on errors in the model !
I know the undercarriage (..???) is no-where near representative of the real thing, but hopefully no one ever looks there !

It has a option to have a rail with both ELCAN and ACOG, but to my knowledge the ACOG got shaken so badly it was useless, and it is mostly used with the reflex sight that cid has modeled, as the sight offers a better reticule for the wepaon than the ELCAN offers. and ofcourse Norwegians don't use the SUSAT

again, great model cid. excellent work in excellent time :D

No just in my opinion - thats mount can be used for stationary HMG on all BLUFOR,just with changing a scope(SUSAT for Brits,ACOG/ELCAN for US etc.) or a vehicle scoped gun like:

yes it can, like I said, there is a version with rails. any sight can be put on it.

there are several photos of the mount beeing used with a ELCAN and a aimpoint, but none of them are recent. now they are used like on the picture Heskey posted(with a high grade binocular and the reflex sight). atleast within the norwegian army.

I have seen this mount in british hands aswell, using both the reflex and SUSATs.

I do have the ref's H.sta sent me, but I believe theyre someone's private photographs (...and no, not that kind of private). I would not like to post them without permission.

The ammo box is distanced from the original position of it and put about 5cm left, on the outside of the recoil-dampener.
There are still a bit of tweaking of the dimensions as previously stated, and the ammobox will prolly have to be altered.

The only thing I'm a bit concerned with right now is I dont have a clue what tri-budget should be set for this kind of object ?
