You do realise that they are going to have have to implement an entirely new faction and language (if you call Australian a new language, more like bastardised english).

The story of PR:Vietnam is as follows...
Eve of Destruction and the birth of PR:Vietnam
In March 2010, Trahn Lee made a thread in the dev sections about how it would be a shame to let all the Eve Of Destruction (EOD) assets go to waste (EOD was pretty much dead). So, he donated everything to PR, so a PR:Vietnam could be born.
April Fools 2010
Interesting, of course. Many people loved to see something like that. We didn't have an April Fools yet, so we figured, why not use Vietnam as 2010's April Fools?
There was a sort of alpha build of PR:Vietnam, but was slapped together, nothing too stable. I made a teaser, announcing PR:Vietnam. We made the teaser look a bit like the original BF:Vietnam trailer. Sure it was terrible, heck, it was a one-man job, all made in one lousy afternoon.
Nam went AFK and MIA, not KIA
After April Fools, discussion continued about a possible PR:Vietnam. Nothing was written in stone yet. Unfortunately, people (developers) were too busy dealing with real life and other PR things, so Vietnam didn't receive a lot of attention. Always keep in mind, we're all volunteers, doing everything in our precious spare time.
Months went by, Vietnam was still there, but not much was happening. In this time, PR v0.95 became bigger and bigger and was top priority for everyone.
He who was lost has now returned!
Once v0.95 was out the door, Vietnam started receiving some attention again. Progress was slow, but it was alive. After a while, we opened the Vietnam developer forums to R-CONs and R-COMs, to speed up development a bit. A couple of weeks ago, we created Vietnam tester forums, so the PR Test Team could help us test our changes.
Present Day
And this brings us to where we are now. Vietnam is being developed by a handful of developers, if and when they have time. The main focus of the development team however is the next version of PR.
Vietnam is not ready, there's still a lot that needs to be done. Yet, we've made very good progress these last few months.
Nam Needs Luvin'
If you're willing to map for Vietnam, feel free to do so. We need 2km and 4km maps.
Stop Whining
We hope to keep you updated. But as always, we are not obliged to show anything, so try to be happy with what you do get .

no it was not a joke they were going to do it and decided to use it as April Fools since people will think its a jokewitty_pseudonym wrote:This was an April Fool's joke that took on a life of its own. After they realized it wasn't really funny, they were too far in, so now they are fucked. They will actually have to make something. This happened to me in college when I asked a buddy's sister out as a joke, I know how they feel.

"If/when they have time... although progress has been very good". Why is it that this doesn't really come off as so honest or telling the real truth? How can progress be "very good" when it's only being developed when ever the devs feel like it?

Re: It's been a year. Any Progress?
Do you think that it will be closed?dtacs wrote:Vietnam is being developed, but just at a very slow and frameless rate. Development was spread over PRA2, PRBF2, PR2 and PRV - basically biting off more than one can chew - hence why the developers asked the community to try to make some maps for it, in order to be a proper release and not just a gimmick.
The hype lasted until people realized that the quality of work being presented wasn't on par with PR itself, plus the lack of updates didn't keep public interest high (EX this thread). Majority, if not all of the work is being ported from Eve of Destruction 2 including assets, skins and maps. I personally would like to see some screenies which aren't lackluster or look exactly the same as EoD2.
Hopefully the project is put out soon so it can just be over and done with, or cancelled entirely so development is put into more pressing areas. Cancellation would ruffle a few feathers, but people will forget about it in mere days.
If anyone wants it to be put out as soon as possible, check out this thread and see help with the mapping. Since its 'just around the corner', mapping should be the final piece in the puzzle.

No.
The developers have come to far to cancel it now, I just hope that it is.

It would seem so, as all assets, weapons and skins are complete.
