There have been a few gaming experiances in my life that ive really remebered.
From being 10 years old playing Quake 1 with the lights off at night and being scared the **** out of.
Being 12 and Playing Delta force 2 on those HUGE maps where you could snipe from litrally a mile away.
Being 13 And discovering Counterstrike
Or my (until now) best experience. Of playing Joint Operations on a 6 hour rotation server, with Weather effects, night/day simulations and epic scales of awesomeness.
Last night i decided to pop on the Normandy server, i Saw a clanmate from a loooong time ago (afterdune) was on and a few ppl, thought i would have a quick game.
The server filled up and we had a great game as Wermacht. Until the map finished and we suddenly realised we had a full server, and were about to play as Allies.
Now Medal of Honour:AA Was good, but scripted as hell. You saw the cinematic version, just like on every other game ive ever seen that had a dday level.
On PR, This experience was so scarily realistic, i was shouting into my headset like a madman.
We lined up around 12 Higgins boats, all with varying numbers of troops inside. Our commander decided to attack 'Point De Hoc' On the far right of the map, with the cliff face.
We knew it would be defended but we hoped most of the enemy would be on the main beaches
As we got closer, we could only guess as those higgins boats have a very low view range when your sitting in the main hold! Then the MGs started........
Now i decided prior i would go medic for my squad of 8. It would be needed on the beach. I was actually utterly wrong.....
Smoke grenades began popping out from all the boats, landing in the water and on the shallows. Purples, greys even yellows i swear?
The M2 Gunner was the first hit, straight through the face. Next the guy infront maybe 1 meter, dead. This is when the door finally dropped.
I ran for all i was worth, i could barely see anything through the smoke expect the outline of the cliff, the smoke and about a million tracers. By the time i hit the cliff wall i turned round to see where the rest of my squad was. So far as i could see all 8 were dead. i looked to my left and right and bodies lined the beach. The first wave have been a massive failure. EVERY squad had specialists to rope the cliff, yet i only saw one rope. I started to climb and saw the bodies come flying down from the top of the rope. I decided against it.
In the end i was back down on the beach hiding behind a rock like a coward, With people calling out for a medic 3 feet away from me, but with MG fire raking the land around me. Eventually a lucky grenade popped down and killed me.
Now On PR, 40 Guys were dead in the space of about 30 seconds. 1 squad somehow managed to get up from the cliff and into cover.
The following assaults on various beaches proved to be equally bad. Even sending some squads to their death, getting them to ride shotgun and distract the defenders while the main forces landed elsewhere. One time my whole squad was machine gunned to death before ANY of us exited the higgins.
The Few times i had made it onto the beach, every time i leapfrogged up to the next tank trap or boat trap, i witnessed my fellow team being killed and picked off.
I even made it the 2/300 M up the beach while rest of my team were being massacred and hid under a huge Bunker. But as soon as i did i saw grenades rolling down the hill and outside of the slit.
Unfortunately after this somebody started complaining about 'high pingers' causing lag for everyone else. So they all suggested kicking the 250+ pingers (which includes me who played on server for last 6 hours!). I may have been a bit ahem, rude back to th
em about this and PB kicked me and i lost my slot.
Normally i would be SUPER pissed off, but this gaming experience wayyyy outweighed the negative
Guys this Gaming Experience last night was so epic that i even told my non gaming friends of it! It is still clear in my mind so much. That was the closet to a real war environment (in terms of the Frailty of People, the tactics and determination of all the players etc) ive actually ever seen in a game.
While it could never recreate the real life experiences i and others have had, its scary and yet exciting to see something so realistic be playable.
Running up that beach i swear was pure adrenaline, even though its just a game.
Big love to Afterdune and all others involved in this mod. Wish i had been around in the last 4 years to help out but ive been away!

Yeah that was kind of a nice round, we had better though ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
I was commander on the round, sadly I had some squads not listening so it didn't help for the landings. Sq6 did a good job at East Point and made it to the inland, then they attack Fox by behind. We tried to land elsewhere but it always failed, I was not able to put my Commander rally because Squadleaders were dying too fast, germans had a good defence.
If you continue to play you will certainly fall on a better game as US, where the team make it inland and where everybody charge at the same time, sadly it wasn't the case yesterday.

Re: 'one of those gaming experiances'
Someone said he recorded it as a german MG gunner who defended east point at the beginning. I would really like to see that video on youtube ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
I was in squ 6, died on the beach but managed to spawn on the rally point a minute later, when some guys of my squad already were in the crater scenery
When moving from east point to fox, we avoided any enemy contact, even it was a bit close sometimes. Our whole squad was moving along an alley and suddenly one single german crossed. We all layed down and hoped he doesnt look at us, and he didnt.
After we took west point we wanted to take the middle point from behind, because nobody noticed us at fox and we didnt loose a single men capping, because everybody defended on the beach.
But then: server got restarted... -.-
So someone pls upload a video, would like to see the landing again from another view!

Yeah sq6 did a good job. The round was ok, but 1 bad apple and the basket is not cometible anymore. With one of the squad always going solo it failed. They tried like 4 times, and each time they failed. The rest of the team could have used more people to storm the beach all at once on the same spot.
Next time I will also try to make the team in a line rather than in bunch, will be harder for the germans to cover a big front rather than shoot in the bunch.
