btw, I talked to a Norwegian army general a while ago in the train (he's stationed near here), he spoke pretty good Dutch, the accent isn't bad at all.

Possibly camo wetsuits or drysuits, and its not too uncommon for more special guys too try out new gear.

Yep, called "driving suits". Basically a waterproof one-piece.

And you don't have to be "special" to use them. Quite a few units who do bad-weather boating use them. Including the Border Guards and KJK. Both are conventional units, albeit with specialised missions. The unit in the video is the Norwegian Army Artillery Battalion's "Artillerijeger"s, basically artillery forward observers who also work in the FAC/JTAC role. They obviously use the suits for waterborne insertions. What the dog's got to do with those guys I have no idea about. Could be used for rear security and listening posts for a patrol, maybe. Always looks cool, though.

Figured. Terrain didn't look much like any of the northern bases, and I know there's a K9 unit at Rygge. Never was a dog handler myself, but have worked with a few of them. Good guys, learned a lot from them.

Best base to be in if you are in the airforce and want some action as infantery in the RNOAF NIS and BS2 ftw
Would also bragthat Rygge has a pretty long streak being the best K9 base in Norway from the k9 handler exams for conscripts, ?rlandet, Bod?, MP and GSV can just go to bed ^^

If anyone that are thinking of serving for a year and gets into RNOAF here is a "dimme vid" of the guys we were with on Rygge, the same year. Bear in mind its a memory vid from their time there so its not some sort of fancy shit going on.



They were moved down too Kreta for nearly three months teh lucky ********.

Hehe, yeah, the ever-present bragging of NIS being the "most operational" unit in the Air Force... Can't mention Rygge without the NIS guys throwing those phrases around!

That said, they get to do a lot of cool stuff in training. The dog handlers I wouldn't know about. Don't know about their training/live-mission ratio and skill-set, and have never worked with the 137AW guys, but as I said, some of the others were very knowledgeable and great to work with. Although some had slightly bloated egos. That's what you get for being "special", I guess...

BTW: They weren't exactly first in, last out of that mission either.

Understandable though we+NIS got our discharge like 2-3weeks after they got home, and they were not over the 9 month thingy that qualifies you for oversea work when they got sent out.
And you had all the shit with whos going, because the rest had to sit with guard duty etc. There were only one sergeant left in that platoon and one Lt. We also had a sudden call of getting enough people too send too afghanistan since, BS1 and BS2 out of nowhere got ordered too get enough men for Astan. So lot of shit going down at the same time nearly.

But from what I know from those who were there in december 50% is going too a-stan, another 20% is now on Seychelles with the Orion squadron.

Many knowledgeable people in BS2 though, most of the sergeants didnt act like dicks and knew they were fresh from officer school most of the senior officers had tons on tons of experience from afghanistan, LIbya, Kosovo you name it. The engineer platoon even had a old MJK operator as their officer. The knowledge and experience is alot more consentrated when its put into only one squadron.

But that being said, the army and so forth has alot more cool shit all over its hard getting into K9 everywhere in the military for every tenth appliers there were only one spot when I got in and that is usually the thumb rule. And you can be so unlucky that the airforce has picked you too work with the recruiting offices somewhere in the country, or dont get into force protection and have too bee a kitchen helper or entertainment guy and so on.

And that being said the boot camp in Stavanger is a joke, we learned how too handle the weapon thats it and I only got 50 shots with the AG3 in two months. We was never in the forest learning too survive in battle and so on and we got a pretty lousy exercise at the end of the boot camp. My platoon leader was actually a economy student in "BI in bergen" and had his officer job as a summer job (great guy btw). The radio guys that also was with us in BS2 got the message that whatever you learned in boot camp you forget that and we will learn you how too do your jobs. Then they were kicked out in the forest with 120L backpacks, and had too put up rele stations for a week.

And as you say they say great things about NIS, thats becxause on facebook and what not, they see all their friends from Boot camp sitting in some guard house drinking Cola while they are out hunting FSK/HJK dudes. You just feel a tad better about yourself.

They are using the Diamaco C8 and the HK417, both quite modified

Also interesting that they use what seems to be the older Aimpoints instead of the newer CompM4s.

Huh.. yeah hadn't noticed, that is a bit wierd. wonder why?

maybe becouse it has a slightly bigger diameter and is easier to aim trough in cqb?

anyone have any ideas?

But i know they use the Diamaco becouse they don't trust the 416, something about a part in the trigger mechanism that doesn't handle hard blows and extreme condition too well, if I remember correctly

That issue is being fixed and rifles with new/upgraded trigger mechanisms are on their way in.
