[List] How much fun do you have as a squad member?

Post by Cavazos »

Hey everyone,

Was curious aboutthis and wanted to see how many people share my mindset or not. In PR, i'm bored as a squad member but as a squad leader I always have fun. I think this is because I don't have to worry as much about fighting which is something i'm not always good at AND I get to attempt to excel on something that is not direct fighting yet can help outthe game a lot - being an effective squad leader.

So I wanted to know if you guys have a lot of fun being a squad member and not habing to worry about the tactical level stuff an SL does? Perhaps it is also dependent on the type of squad leader you have.

I'm usually squad leading, which means just being a squad member is calming, and great if your brain isn't a 100% in PR-mode.

I have more fun as a squad member, just because I have no leasdership skills. TBH though I think the dull moments come when there are no english speakers, or no one talking then it gets quite lonely.

I get so stressed as a SL at times. I agree 100% with Saxoni, sometimes it's best to step back and relax a bit.

It's actually quite an interesting question and personally i feel Squad-leading is more rewarding and engaging but being part of a SQ every now and again is invaluable because no matter what you can ALWAYS learn from other people's squad-leading style and approach.

So a good balance of both is good to learn and have fun :P

As Akiba said about learning from the Squad Leader, I always do this, I always look to see where the best spots for HMG's are, Foxholes, FOB's etc. as through all this when I do lead squads myself I will be a more effective squad leader than if I didn't learn from more squad leaders.

Anyway, I do enjoy being a Squad Member as I don't mind taking orders and sometimes I just know that I am not as proficent as the squad leader so naturally I will follow his lead as he knows best (whether it be through his tactical awareness being higher, or just being more experianced in PR, he knows better than me at my current skill level).

Although I also do enjoy being a Squad Leader as well but the only time I make a squad myself is if I am playing as insurgents or if there are no capable squad leaders in my team at all (or if all capable squad leader squads are full).

Either way, I don't mind too much, although I will always choose to join a capable squad leaders squad before creating my own squad.

You can have fun as a squad member, if your squad leader make you (and your squad members) feel so, if you want to play as Special Ops, placing C4, rushing enemy FOBs, join a squad that you think it will make you feel good for rushing FOBs, everything. If you want to stay in defense, FOBs, mortars, HMG, Foxholes, join a squad that you think will do this, if don't leave and join another, if there is no squad that you like, make one, then people will join it...

I forgot to mention how fast I start thinking of how I would do certain things when I'm just a member of a squad though, which is kind of a bad habit. Whenever a squad-leader does something I would do different, I can't help getting irritated. I don't tell him, though - I just walk around being pissed. This is definitely something I have to stop doing if I'm ever going as good at being as squad-member as I'm at squad-leading.

I understand what you mean Saxoni, haha. Usually I offer options or reminders during lull moments if I feel he isn't being his best. "Oh hey, don't you think it would be great to have the AR cover the main road whole we wait?". That way it doesn't sound like i'm ordering him around and they are more likely to follow anything that is tactically sound.

Have a lot of fun playing medic, I'm always really glad to feel useful which is the most important thing when you're playing as a squad member in my opinion, to feel useful.

I always prefer to be a member to a S.leader, I too lack the leadership skills, plus, though my english is fine, i still am not so confident to speak freely >.<

If your brain isnt doing 100%, you better go to bed. Thinking of a SM position like it is som easy stuff is like workers in a company making some half assed stuff, while the boss is trying his best.

You must stry your bes regardless of the position.

I have equal ammount of fun SMing and SLing.

Saxoni (and to anyone who has difficulty suppressing SL instincts when being a squad member), next time you go squad member under me, ask to be a fireteam leader or second-in-command. I'd be interested to see how you handle that.

I'm always SL mainly because I need to find a really good squadleader (almost as good as me or as good as me) for me to not go against their instructions. I find a lot of squadleader epically lack tactical ability, IE to formulate a high quality plan, and the ability to formulate a high quality plan on the fly, and change that plan as the situation changes. Often times a squadleader has a fairly competent squad following them and does the wholesale wrong thing.

So basically if the SL doesent know what they're doing, I have no fun as a squad member.

^ exactly the same for me. I stick to **** squad leaders if there are good members in the squad though, which there oftentimes is.

I do the exact same thing, excpet I don't get angry annoyed, I just kind of roll my eyes in my mind and go with it, but if it gets too bad then I just bug out and find a better squad.

For me I definitely need a good SL to have fun. If he sucks and the other squad members are **** as well its just boring. I've spent too much time playing in organized PR to suffer bad pubbers. Its why I mostly play with people I know so that when I'm not SLing I have total confidence in my leader (who is usually my friend) and so that even if I disagree with his plan personally I know its more about style than competence.

Honestly my favourite role in a good squad is either AR or Fireteam leader. Nothing more fun than being #2 to a good leader. It releases you from a lot of the bigger decision making but still gives you a lot of ability to make little decisions that would bug you otherwise. Also being an AR means you are important enough to be incharge of something critical without being totally responsible. Though 128 without an SL I know is utterly boring. Same goes for SLing without someone I know to be FTL or even having a couple guys I know who are good enough to kind of be a driving force in the squad so that its more than me tacitly pushing the group in the right direction.

SLing is satisfying but taxing. Its just hard to find a good enough squad to relax in. Its more stressful being in a bad squad with no power than being in charge of a weak one yourself.

I think that as you become a more competent leader you become less patient with poor leadership. Kind of an unfortunate ratio. :P

Same here, but will start to give advices. If they get ignored and sql fails in his decisions multiple times: leave squad!
