Project Normandy main post

Post by Pvt.LHeureux »

Use the link to this thread to spread information about Project Normandy, thanks :)

The mod will soon see a HUGE overhaul/update. Stay tuned!

Hello, I'm a developper and supporter for Project Normandy, wich is a mini-mod for Project Reality, wich is the biggest and most played mod of Battlefield 2.

The mod is normally set in Realistic Modern Warfare gameplay, but one of the Developper started his own side project, now it's finally released and we're working hard to get things up. We don't have any modelers, could be usefull to have some, because we mainly use vehicles, weapons, etc from other BF2 mods. The mod use A LOT of models and other things from Battlegroup Frontline, a BF2 mod that died.

If you have played World War II Online you might certainly like this mod.

The mod is not aimed to compete with Forgotten Hope 2, wich is a way more developped WW2 mod for BF2 and with many more fronts, Russians are coming too. This mini-mod was developped to see how a WW2 setup would play with Project Reality and 128+ players gameplay.

Project Normandy is set on DDay landings, inner land fights and features the germans versus the US army. THE MOD DOES NOT AIM FOR HISTORICAL ACCURACY DON'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE WEIRD CAMOS, AND OTHER NON HISTORICAL STUFF. For exemple, germans using bazookas untill we get a Panzersrheck model.

We use vietnam era models for the US kits, so don't be surprised. All is really WIP and we can't afford all the nice things yet without modelers, still it's very enjoyable. We have only one map for now, more to come ;)

The mini-mod and the main mod revolve around Teamwork A LOT, like having to join a squad to have specific kits and way more other things.

The current map is 2km wide and features beaches, Pointe Du Hoc style cliffs, bocages and villages.

128 players+ server was developped not a long time ago, like 1 year+ ago and is still being worked on, it was played on PR many times and on FH2 (WW2 BF2 mod). 128+ players works great with squads management too. We had some good events for Project Normandy.

Project Reality use mumble (a voice program), so when you will join Project Normandy servers and have PR_Mumble (a special mumble for PR) you will be auto-linked to the server and you will be able to talk localy with 3D positioned audio with team-mates around you! Works freaking great :)

Sounds are still very WIP and much other things

How to install :

1. Buy BF2 or re-install it.

2.
Patch it to version 1.41, you don't need older patchs to patch it to 1.41.

3. Patch it to version 1.5

4. The mini-mod requires the big normal mod (wich is still awesome though), because it needs it's files.

5. To download the mod, get here and download the client version :
https://www.realitymod.com/downloads

6. Install, it and say yes to install PR_Mumble if it ask you to.

7. READ Project Reality's manual, otherwise you won't get jack**** of what's going on, PLEASE, have some time to read it. Don't come here and complain if you didn't read it. You can always ask questions in this thread.

8. Once installed download Project Normandy mini-mod at the top of this post.

The mini-mod is only one map for now, and to play it you must run the standard Project Reality mod. We will get more maps for the mod. Also the current map might feature tanks later on.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, ASK AWAY. :o

Here are some videos.

The best video for me, recommend it to see how Project Normandy plays out with full player counts :

Map fly-over

Attack on enemies mortars (Player builded)

Attack on the beach

Hi guys,

Does anybody still play this? i know there is a new relese coming soon but just wanted to test the water by playing this one first.
started PR as usual but could only find 1 german server which was in red and required a password. no other servers on there, is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

Nobody plays any DLC to PR later than few weeks after release and during events. If server is marked as red it means that it have different version of Normandy than you have.

The only PN version released to the public is the December 2011 one, wich is really old. Nobody plays PN for the moment, everyone's waiting for the new version. Personally I would like to release it after PR 1.0, otherwise PN will get killed by normal PR.

Next time please just use the report post feature (bottom left).. This ensures the offending threads are brought to the moderator's attentions quicker.....and it saves you seemingly posting randomly when their posts are deleted....
