Vehicle Retrieval Squad

Post by VerdwaaldOdyssey »

Hey guys. About a week ago I was playing on Jabal Al Burj as MEC. I decided to make a squad named Logi Transport. The reason why I made the squad was that I was sick and tired of seeing vehicles left out to die on maps like this one, but especially on this map since the trucks were almost the only transportation for MEC other then the APC's.

So when the round started I got 3 people in my squad including myself. What we did was we waited at main for some friendlies to take one or two trucks and we'd hop into the passenger seat with them, they'd drive out to their objective and hop out, we'd then hop into the drivers seat, drop off any crate or ammo that they haven't already dropped and drive back to base.

Throughout the whole match we managed to keep ourselves almost constantly moving and on task, which was interesting to me because I've flown transport helicopters a lot and there's almost always a lengthy down time.

By the end of the match none of us had died and I doubt we lost a single truck, we won the match by pushing the enemy back to their last flag and capping it. One thing that stuck clearly in my mind was that one of the squad leaders said "This match went faster then usual" That is a clear sign that we played a vital role in the match, (in my opinion at least) by providing everyone transportation to the front and by preventing tickets from being wasted because of trucks being left for dead.

I logistics are one of the most important parts of PR just because of FOB spawning. You get a FOB neer the front line, and you get troops moving in faster then the other team, you will win every time.

I am tempted to try this out in a game.

The sad thing is that it worked.

Solid gameplay. I think I will do this very same thing the next time I play.

Beautiful use of logistics and transports you'd be pretty hard pressed to beat a team with that level of transportation and logistics.

How is it sad? Is it because no one takes trucks back?

A great thing to do, but so few guys are happy to not shoot all round, anyone doing any form of trans in PR even just driving a hummer or truck is ALWAYS useful sometimes I do the same, I have seen quite a few times an insurgent taxi squad which is also great!

Mumble makes this so easy you just zip over to people and ask if they want a lift to the action.

This is a problem. Nobody likes driving logy back for a refill.
And... why should anybody do it? If you think about it, the battles we try to simulate in PR are not that big, and would not last for days in real life. So even thou logy would be important for the troops, after it deploys supplies, that's pretty much it. I don't think another supply run will make sense, because the battle would be finished by the time it would get back there.

I would prefer having engineering APCs that can carry supply boxes, like that IDF M113. But, instead of using supply boxes, make the APC deployable (with the use of shovels), like the commander APC. Then it would be possible to move the FOB, without some poor guy doing many solo supply missions back and forth, which is not that realistic.
