Retarded GPU fan

Occasionally my GPU fan mixes up with the speeds it should be spinning at. For example at 100% it should be spinning at 4000 rpm whereas it decides to spin at 1200 rpm. When this happens I place the fan speed manually at 30% and guess what it starts spinning at 3500 RPM. I have a Palit GTX 470 and am using NVIDIA system tools for setting the speeds and a tiny bit of overclocking. My drivers are up do date. Anyone have any suggestions?

dont use nvidia system tools? use palits tools or evgas tools?

You can research if your video card has different firmware updates available from the Palit website.
Usually the manufacturers fix these types of mistakes in updated firmware releases.
Please be careful before trying to update GPU firmware, any mistakes can lead to the death of your GPU.

Also, Palit has it's own software called palit thundermaster , it might be a better choice than the Nvidia panel

Just tried out thundermaster it doesn't let you configure fan speeds according to temperatures which is a problem any ideas?
