Good news, bad news.

Good news?

I got my menu music working. I just had to add the file into my zipped common client archives. Im not sure it will work when I distribute a beta.

Bad news?

Well, due to lag issues, expect to see more fog. I thought I would have optimized it enough by lowering my grass a little and putting a bit more fog on, but as it stands, I need more to get a good steady FPS. Note: I test 90 % of the time on high with a semi decent video card, so if I can get good fps going on it then you might too. But more fog = less to look at, or if you prefer, close combat. ;)

Save your music as ogg format, call it 'starup' (or something) and put it in

levels/yunasakaIsland/music (make a music folder in you r map folder)

then in

levels/yunasakaIsland/info/yunasaka.desc

add

<music> levels/yunaksakaIsland/music/Startup.ogg </music>

seems to be some other things you can cut back to raise fps Dylan..

for example..the over all draw distance can be reduced to just beyond the fog(why draw something in the fog huh?)

also overgrowth draw distance can be cut..it defaults at 400-500 i think..
check the overgrowth cfg or con file

it seems to have made a HUGE difference on my Qwai...also try to use terrain as opposed t over/undergrowth for landscaping...it requires no extra resources at all...go take a walk outside and notice the natural patterns of nonflatness in your neighbourhood and copy that in your map..its quite a deep study in form actually...!!!

Hey ma! is we gettin smarts or what huh? :fryingpan

hehe. Hawaii stereotyping. We dont live in grass huts, and im pretty sure our computers arent made out of mud. The neighborhood is flat, but our roads are hilly.

I dont know how I should do the terrain now, and I might need to give you a personal look at it for some ideas because really, its flat and I have no ideas for it. Maybe you can help me with that grass I saw on your map. Hexmesh? I dont know about it.

Oh btw - draw distance is 200 atm, but I was sleeping on it. I will probally cut it down to 100-150 because if you have ever seen fog on hawaii, our mountains are clearly visible. I went for that look on mine, but its not agreeing with my hardware and it wasnt for blakejr either. (but his PC is a peice of ****. :P )

Then how would I write the path? It is as of now using the default path going into common/blah blah.

read my post! sorry if you didnt understand.

replace the common....blah with

levels/yunaksakaIsland/music/Startup.ogg

so it looks into the music folder you created in your map and not in common

Overgrowth object count - 803
Estimated statics is about 40-60. Not too many.

Yes, the map feels very small. Maybe three to four minutes walk around the island to get to the caps. Eh, but if you still dont mind taking a look I can get you a copy of what I have within a few days.

He has a problem with that!
He doesn't quite know the folderstructure when he packs the zip files. :p

(That's what you get, Dylan, for calling my PC "****"! )

Never the less, the version I have does lag like hell, mostly on the "plains area below the Hill" when looking away from the Hill.
(I say Hill rather than volcano. Can't spell volcano anyway... :p )

Since I do not have the time, or a working computer as of this moment, I guess I will just give you guys something to look at. Its not very efficient, and it will lag, but it looks pretty good. I think this was the latest test build I made before I reformatted. ( I might have saved the files on a seperate hard drive )

Anyways, without further adu I present a WIP of Yunasaka Island ( aka. good_practice )
