MSVCP71.DLL

Post by Jackh94 »

So after patching Bf2 to 1.5 , making an account on it and then installing the 3 PR installers and patching it upon launch i get ''This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.Dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I haven't just sat back and waited for some one to trouble shoot it for me. I did try reinstalling the game from BF2 patching it to 1.5 and installing PR and patching PR. Same problem. Iv also downloaded MSVCR71.dll and placed it in the EAGames/Battlefield2 folder and Windows/system32.

Any thoughts to this one guys ?

Thanks

What OS do you have?
WinXP, Vista, 7, 8?

More often than not in 2013, if you get this error, you have a serious virus/malware infection.

It is always highly advisable to only get .DLL files from known reputable sources, not random dll library downloads sites on the internet.
many programs use the .dll file,if you uninstalled a program it may have deleted the file, look in windows/system32 folder and see if the file is there,if not download it and paste it in the system32 folder, then open a command prompt and type,
Regsvr32 msvcp71.dll
Two or three other files may be missing, you will get an error message like before ,just repeat the process untill the game starts.

I don't think it is a virus as this is the only time this problem has occured. The quote mentioned about opening a command promt , can you guide me through how I do this. ?

Thinking back to a previous installation I had to open the windows registry to patch my BF2 because i had an error which said the BF2 was already a higher patch. Creating a new binary file in the BF2 folder with a value of 1.40 let me patch it to 1.5

*EDIT* The OS of the machine i amm trying to install on is Vista Ultimate (I know its fragile as hell)

In Vista,
How to start an Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7 and Vista
How to start an Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7 and Vista

Pick your choice of method,
again
look in windows/system32 folder and see if the file is there,if not download it and paste it in the system32 folder, then open a command prompt and type,

Still no good Now getting a message saying it failed to load it. Make sure it is stored at the path etc...

Do i just dump the msvcp71.dll in the Eagames/Battlefield2 folder or does it go some where more specific. ?

If nothing else works going to change the operating system later on.

Here is a link to my copy of the file:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/65fiiuvu6n02mps/msvcp71.dll

It does indeed go into EA Games\Battlefield 2 directory.

So:
download to PC
COPY it to the EA Games\Battlefield 2 directory
try to run vanilla BF2

IF that doesn't work
Go to C:\windows\system32 in 32-bit OR C:\Windows\SysWow64 in 64-bit and search for msvcp71.dll
If it is not there, you need to download a Vista version of the file from somewhere, (sorry I don't have vista installed anywhere atm), and paste it into the directory (either 32 bit or 64 bit)

in Vista its not as easy to re-register a dll, what you have to do is to open an elevated CMD prompt (see the links in above post), to do this type in the Start Search box CMD then when CMD shows in the list right click it and choose Run as Administrator, then pop in the regsvr32 commands and links to files so:

regsvr32 c:\windows\System32\msvcp71.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\SysWOW64\msvcp71.dll

*note the space after 2 and before C:
