K, so if the ticker's working then that should prove PRLauncher.exe has UDP/TCP outbound access fine enough.

If you could do the following it should prove helpful: Grab this Process Monitor application and extract/run it (it's free and clean - no need to install - no bs included).

On startup, set the "Filter" popup window to the following:

Process Name > is > PRLauncher.exe > then > Include > Add > OK

There are five icons top right on the main window when it opens that allow for toggling on/off what gets displayed; uncheck all except "Show Network Activity", then run PRLauncher and attempt to launch/update the game. ProcMon will produce an output that should indicate exactly what it's doing. The process goes something like the following:

Start PRLauncher;
-----------------
1. UDP domain lookup (ingame.realitymod.com)
2. TCP connect to 74.55.51.162:80 (ingame.realitymod.com) = ticker data
	On Error = "Error loading news..."

Launch game;
------------
3. UDP domain lookup (gpcm.gamespy.com)
4. TCP connect to 69.10.30.242:29900 (gpcm.gamespy.com) = user login
	On Error = "1004: Error connecting to server. (10061)"

5. UDP domain lookup (prbf2.cdn.ancientdev.com)
6. TCP connect to 63.236.252.179:80 (random akamai/other host) = verification list
	On Error = "1301: Unable to contact verification server. Please check your internet connection and try again."
If you could post the output from that then that'd be great. Just save the result out in plaintext CSV form and paste it here (you can open it in Notepad to copy it), or you could just screenshot it.

A little long-winded all this, but trying to drill down to the fault here. ;)

Thank you for your help! I've done what you requested, but no errors show up in ProcMan (!?). Maybe it's throwing error 1301 because it can't tell what's really wrong? I'm totally uninstalling BF2 and PR now and attempting a full reinstall to see if that fixes it.

Still with the same error after full uninstall and reinstall :(

Here's my result.
It's possible IPv6 is causing you problems there. Go to the network adapter you use to connect to the Internet, select "Properties", on the "Networking" tab untick "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)", OK it, then restart the machine. Run PR, and if it still fails, make another ProcMon log if you can and paste it here.

I don't know what to make of what's going on there tbh, though your earlier mention of having multiple network connections configured could be a possibility. I would try to simplify your network setup as much as possible for the purpose of testing to rule it out as being the cause - disable any connection network adapter(s)/devices where necessary (restart each time), connect directly, etc. I don't know what to make of all the localhost loopback/proxy connections there, though the gamespy connection isn't? What application is sat on port 12080? However you have things configured there, it's not familiar to me, sorry. :/ - More info needed.

Post some more ProcMon logs when you do these things, too, if you could - I'd like to see what changes, if anything.

EDIT: "Technical description for port 12080:
The port 12080 functions for the port fields of proxy server settings when launching broadband or modem Internet connections and when utilizing Avast's local proxy Webshield, which scans, monitors and filters all http traffic from Internet sites."

So, I guess that probably explains what the 12080 application is. It would be good if you could get rid of the Avast software for a while (uninstall it, or disable it completely) to produce some 'normal' ProcMon connection logs. As it is now, I can't see what remote addresses PRLauncher is communicating with exactly.

One thought that did come to mind was that you said you whitelisted the BF2 folder - well, does that cover subfolders, too? PRLauncher.exe\PRUpdater.exe sit deeper down in the \mods\pr\bin subdirectory.

I disabled all the Avast shields and that cleaned things up a bit, but still no help. I have a FIOS router which is broadcasting a Wifi-G network which is also connected to an Asus router operating as a bridge that is broadcasting a Wifi-N network. The problem exists when attempting to connect to either the FIOS or Asus routers. It persists after disable IPV6. I have otherwise normal net connectivity. Given that many other people have this same error, I think it's unlikely that an idiosyncrasy in my setup is causing it.

OK. I've got it working. The error had nothing to do with my network or port forwarding or connectivity or profiles or BF2 install or anything like that. I think it was just throwing 1301 because it was confused. Because I'm always deeply suspicious of .NET at all times, I ran Windows Updater and included some "optional" updates to the .NET 3.5 framework and also ran the .NET 4 repair tool. I ran the launcher and it worked fine! Verified the files, updated smoothly! Hopefully this will be helpful for others in the 1301 boat the 1301 error does not always mean a network problem

Hello, i have also this problem, and i try all solutions but none helped me.I think that reason why this solutions not working on my pc is i have windows xp.But sometime i think that is it on 15 attempt i just normal launch g ame. So i really dont know what is problem.

FOUND FIX ! ! ! Telekom is blocking Windows XP clients from their DNS since last week, use Google DNS ( 8.8.8.8 + 8.8.4.4 ) in your network-adapter settings (TCP/IP setting)!!

yes the solution is to go to ipv4 and put 8.8.8.8 in DNS

I am using windows 7 getting 75 error patch 1.5.1 tried to reinstall game once download it using torrent and also separated winrar files changes DNS server address and disabled firewall also when i enabled firewall made sure its allowed on both private and public still not finding any solution
