Just Stopping by to say Hello!

Post by TrahnLee »

[R-Dev]TrahnLee, aka EoDDev TrahnLee, just stopping in to say hello. It has been a long while since I have worked in the mod scene. Real life has kept me busy, with work and family. I still piddle around on the EOD Mod from time to time, tinkering, but I have no new release plans for the old EOD Mod. I've spent some time working on a Civil War Mod, for fun, but it is not something that I will probably ever release. I am not sure that there is much life in games on the Battlefield 2 Game Engine.

I keep hoping that we'll get access to frostbite, but I am sure that will never happen. It is good to see that PR Vietnam, is still getting some game time. I also like the idea of PR on other game engines, like Crysis. I wish the team lots of luck in bringing it to fruition, as I know that they will be able to do.

It is good to see many names still here working on this great mod! I wish I had more time to devote to the mod scene, as I sure do miss it. Perhaps, in the future, I can get back into being a productive creator of some good fun in the near future!

Nice, you are back! :)

So you remember when the harddrive crashed, and apparently all BF2 EOD content was suddenly "gone"?
I read it that day on the german bf-games.net news site, and thought like "wtf? That dude made no back-ups on a regular basis??? R u kidding me? " xD :/ Meh... :( :p

I expected there woule be a harddrive-rescue mission to save all the important files... :/
How many hours of work was lost there approximately?

Btw, yes, I think vietnam era in BF2 only has chance in Project Reality Vietnam... :/
(Though EOD for BF2 still is sooooo awesome, and the epic maps that are created by everybody! :D Awesome ambiente... rice paddies, canyon, etc etc-)

One day, frostbite for BF3 HAS to be released, I mean just look, they already have released BF4! :D Going good direction! ;) :p

Btw anyway, some day sb. will figure out frostbite/encoding the BF3 files etc. (probably? I hope so...) and make modding possible... :D
then FINALLY hopefully no more TOW missiles that burn out after a 500 m flight... (as it is currently in BF3... :p omfg xD )

And yeah, on the cryengine, I just realized few days ago, that even Crysis 1 on ULTRA doesn't work for my GeForce GTX 570 (OC to almost GTX 580 performance ! ) without lag (on Full HD), not possible... :/

So, even an "old" game as first crysis title STILL didn't reach full potential on even expensive graphics card! ! (Maybe though, a GTX 770 will have no problem at all anymore running Crysis 1, Ultra, Full HD with more than 60 fps... :p )

Hey Trahn, good to see you again :)

Ye, PR:V is going pretty well, fully integrated into the mod now and is pretty awesome although still needs more maps and a few more heavy assets but we hope to get them in a little in the future :)
You should hop in for a game or two some time if you have time :D

Yes, I need to download the latest version of the mod and check it out! I just built a new computer for Battlefield 4, so I am slowly getting all my games back on this new machine. I certainly would like to see how things have evolved. I am hoping after the first of the year, things on my end will slow down and I can put some effort and time back into working on a mod team.

And Daniel, No, all the EOD content was not suddenly "gone", I still have back ups and copies of the mod build back from the beginnings, even as far back as 1942 before Lotte worked on it.

When my Hard drive crashed, what I lost was all the updates and changes I had made from the previous version to the new version I had intended to release for the last time. The issue was that I had made so many changes and small updates that the amount of work and testing/re-testing was going to be enormous. With the amount of people playing the mod at the time, I just felt that by the time I rebuilt and re-did everything over again, there would not be enough people left to justify the time put forth.

I felt it was better to turn my attention to other mods or perhaps another game engine. As for modding Frost Bite, I think it is very possible. The toolset for Frost Bite is supposedly just an upgraded version of the toolset that was used for Battlefield 2. Additionally, even if we could mod Frost Bite, how are you going to run any mod? From my understanding, EA has the servers all locked up to where there is no way to run a mod type server. They have such a monopoly on things that there is no way for an individual to run a server with a mod on it that is different from their game.

Therefore, until they give the ability out to mod teams to make mods for Battlefield 3 or 4, there will not be any hope of making a mod, even if we could actually, "do it". (Although, EA says it is too complicated for us, what do they know? We mod people put helicopter physics into Battlefield 1942 and made all the other versions of the game engine do things they never thought of.)

This part is exactly what I mean!! :D :p

Btw y u say you built a BF "4" rig?? You REALLY believe BF4 is sooo much better than BF3?
I would play BF3 (Full HD, ultra, 60 fps etc.) before just "jumping" to BF4... lol

Yes, I built a new computer to play Battlefield 4. My old computer that I was playing Battlefield 2 and 3 on was 3 years old, it was time for an upgrade. Battlefield 4 is much, much more CPU intensive than Battlefield 3. Graphics and other aspects of the game very equal to Battlefield 3 to a degree, but it does take some CPU power to push the game engine on 4.

It also helps to have all the cores unlocked when you play as well to improve frame rates.

Besides, one person can never have enough computers surrounding them. I have a mod computer, it is a computer that has all my mod software and programs upon, like 3ds Max, etc. I have a test computer (server) that I use to log onto when I wanted to test things, I have a computer that is nothing but a storage bin for things going back 10 or 15years or so, it is not 10 years old, but it does have stuff on it from as far back as MechWarrior game days. Finally, I have my game rig that I play upon. (I now have two game rigs, the old one and the new one.)
