New $1500 Computer

So I'm going to be buying a new computer between now and the end of November and I've started looking at components and whatnot and was hoping to get some suggestions from you guys as.

Here's what I'm looking at right now:

CPU - Intel 3570K
Motherboard - Asus P8Z77-V
Graphics Card - Radeon R9 280X
RAM - Corsair "Vengeance Blue" 8GB
Power - Corsair CX750 (750W)
SSD - Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB
Cooling - Corsair H100I
Case - Corsair 200R
OS - Windows 8

... Been spamming Corsair bundle deals This clocks in at just short of $1500 before rebates.

Anyways, I'm not a big tech guy so I'm not entirely sure if I've overkilled or skimped on power or cooling, etc. Obviously thing could change with regards to hardware in the next month or so but you get the general idea.

Any help in suggesting components would be awesome. Thanks!

being in vancouver, look at the ncix.ca bundles.

Corsair CX750 coil whine is a problem. Rest of the build is fine and dandy.

If you end up thinking about different mobos in various combo deals, use this as a reference

more better VRMs, more better MOSFET , Inductors, and Capacitors, = more better OC potential.

CPU is fine for it's price/performance
GPU comes in the same range of GTX760 (price/performance)
RAM is also fine, as long as you don't buy "premium super cool looking overpriced"-shizzle

My suggestion would be; get yourself a damn power supply son! That system ain't gonna feed itself! lol

The only issue I see is getting an 1155 socket mobo. Might want to go for a 4670k on the 1150 socket.

I'm using NCIX for everything, which has a lot of "buy this product from X company and get a discount on other product by X company" deals (more likely placebos I guess). So I've been going with a lot of Corsair stuff because of that.

Created a slightly different build based off of the above suggestions (LGA1150 socket/different power supply) -

CPU - Intel 4670K
Motherboard - Asus Z87-Pro
Graphics Card - Radeon R9 280X
RAM - Corsair "Vengeance Blue" 8GB

... Which comes in at $25 more.

Shock, since you live in the states, wait to buy all of your components until Black Friday. You'll save a ton. That's what I did for my build. You'll also be able to buy better components for the same price as the mid range sometimes. Things like graphics cards and CPU don't tend to go on sale too much even on Black Friday. Maybe $30 off. SSD's, 4 TB HDD's, and memory should be flying off the shelf. They sell out damn quick.

To make the H100 fit in the 200R case with your tall RAM, you have to mod the case:

Looks like an easy project, but you should know beforehand.
EXTREMELY important that after you mod the case, you COMPLETELY REMOVE ALL METAL SHARDS/FLAKES from the drilling, even 1 errant metal flake can short out and fry a mobo.

So, either accept the need to mod, find a new case, or find shorter RAM.
IMHO, find a new case.
It will take you 2 hours to mod this from start to finish, spend the extra $15 for another case that is plug and play compatible with h100 and tall RAM.

The 810 switch case is the last case you'll ever have to buy. It's worth the extra few bucks up front.
Edit: remove the media remote and the air filters to get it to about the same price.
That remote is best on market,
those filters are custom made for Switch 810 case, and can be run under water and cleaned in 30 seconds, best filters on market imho.

I always found Tom's Hardware: Hardware News, Tests and Reviews was the place for pretty good info on system building for a particular budget. Best gpus for the cash, best ssd's etc.

you should go for the r9 280x over the 770. its cheaper, in most cases out performs the 770, has 3gb of mem which newer games will be able to utilize more of. i have one paired with an amd fx 8350 and run a steady 70 fps on bf4. and when mantle comes out you will see an even bigger performance increase with amd's gcn architecture used in the r9 2xx series

And the drivers are a joke and 90% of games will have an issue with AMD cards at some point.

I went with the ASUS GTX770 DCUII thing as I got it on sale for $320 (eg. exactly the same price as the R280X) and because it came with three games. Can't say no to free stuff

AMD is set to release "FreeSync", which is it's own version of NVidia's Gsync, except that it's free and can be used with any monitor (although a firmware upgrade is probably needed for older monitors).

AMD's do have VSync.

I believe the Battlefield series has been optimised for AMD since BF2, but I'm not sure what that means how how big of a difference it makes practicality.

AMD's drivers do need improvement.

Nobody's developed anything as amazing as NVidia Inspector for AMD's, at least not yet. RadeonPro just doesn't match up.

That CPU cooler is pretty overkill for the 4670k even if you're going to overclock. Air cooling will be just as effective if your case is well ventilated. Even the stock cooler will work great as long as you're not overclocking.

I assume you will be, so I would replace the liquid cooler with the Noctual NH-U9B.
