(This should've been labeled [Concept], sorry)
Map name: Red Gate
Location: San Francisco
Map size: 4km
Factions: PLA, USMC
Game type: AaS
Hello. I am extremely new to making maps in pr, and I, after getting the hang of the engine and editor, would like to make San Francisco as a map, adding to it as I gain experience. I am most likely not making this as a first map, of course, but I would just like to get the idea down and out there. I will edit this post with updates on the project. I live nearby and have been there many times, and will probably visit again in an effort to better gauge the height map and details.
I'm not going to make the map THIS big, but it's the best image I can find at the moment. The Chinese will come from the north, and the USMC will be defending San Francisco itself from the south (Just the northern part, with the fort, docks, and early northern metropolitan area). Any feedback would be appreciated.I know this will take massive amounts of custom meshes, which is why I expect this to take around a couple months to finish. What do you think?
Here's the overview: file size was too big for me to post it directly

You need to post an overview. I recommend a google earth image or even just a paint picture.

Oh, I thought I posted a satellite image. Gah my iPads being glitchy again. I'll try to have at least a paint picture up as soon as I get home. Thanks for the heads up.Rabbit wrote:https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f354-c ... w-map.html

EDIT: my google earth picture from my iPad says the file is too big. Is there any way to fix this or decrease the file size? Right now it's around 250 KB.

Re: [Map] Red Gate [WIP]
That's a really really big project for a first map. Big ambitions! PR/BF2 has some american style houses statics, but no appartments buildings like US Cities. I think you could maybe focus on the area around the bridge with less city cluster?

You will learn to hate the Editor. Also this would take more than a couple months I think with the need of all the custom models![Razz ](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Re: [Map] Red Gate [WIP]
Oh, believe me, this is NOT going to be my first map. You can think of it as somewhat of a side project that I work alongside with other, smaller maps before it becomes my main focus. I may do San Francisco Park or maybe even [REDACTED] (sorry, that ones a surprise
). However, that portion you circled IS going to be most of the map, however, plenty of the metropolitan area and docks will be included, as I can see many things I could do with skyscrapers. Modeling them is important to me, because the robotics team I will apply for next year uses more or less the same modeling for CAD, and I'd like some experience. Although this will take a long time, I'm sure it will be quite fun to make
.
Oh yes, and I do hate BF Editor. Zero Editor was much more intuitive.![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
EDIT: Hmm, I'm actually still deciding how much of the city I should put in...I'm still just setting up the editor and getting acquainted with it.
