CPU and the grafic Card and PR and other games
Greetings mortals.
I have an AMD Phenom II X3 (tricore) CPU clocked at 2,8 GHz 720 black edition (CPU Passmark 2709) with an ATI 5850 CPU. On all Max I get playable framerates on most maps, but the heavier one get a bit slowish noticeably among which Fallujah and even heavier to digest maps.
I understand the CPU impacts different games differently, but I was curious about the following.
Is my CPU a bottleneck in my system in General holding back my graficcard in any game/application?
Would a faster CPU improve framerates in PR or is my decently fast graficcard just not powerful enough to handle the heavy maps?

yes, that's your bottleneck. i took a quad, overclocked by 25%. frames at heavy load (100p, fallujah) up by 30-40. remember no multithreading, old game.Cassius wrote: Would a faster CPU improve framerates in PR?

I am looking at a new CPU then. I was thinking of the 6 Core Prozessor AMD FX-6300 6x 3.5GHz. Does it offer any kind of advantage over the 4 core FX-4300 3.8 GHz in gaming?
I just looked up a couple of tests. The 6 core FX-6300 seems to be a bit faster than the FX-4300. I do not get why though.
Games are optimized for 4 cores at most. Therefore only 4 cores are used by a game on the FX-6300 which is clocked slower than the 4300 with 4 cores.
Since only 4 cores are used by games at most shouldnt the CPU which can provide 4 cores at the higher clock be faster?

AMD Vishera FX-6300 & FX-4300 ReviewThis conclusion has boiled down to a study in contrasts. While the FX-6300 is a phenomenal value, performs well against Intel’s closest Ivy Bridge competitors and represents a great upgrade solution for most AM3+ users, we’d be hard pressed to recommend the FX-4300 in its present condition. In most respects it is a highly capable processor which –more often than not- beats the i3-series processors clean. However, its price is unjustifiable considering the FX-6300 is only $10 more.
For the time being, AMD is done with the Vishera CPU lineup and everyone should be happy with the results. They’ve increased performance across the board, are competing with or beat Intel's similarly priced solutions on many fronts and have proven that affordability doesn’t have to come with a reduced feature set. While the FX-4300 didn’t quite meet our expectations due to its desperate need for a price reduction, the six-core FX-6300 is currently one of the best bang-for-buck CPUs on the market and it is poised to blaze a new trail for Vishera.
That is what I'm reading all over about it, and in general everyone is recommending 6300 over 4300. I think you should get 6300. You can overclock it on stock a few hundred MHz or you can get a better cooling and go to extreme.
Number of cores has nothing to do with PR, that is true, but do you only play BF2

I guess ill just try and get an 4300 or an fast phenom II X4 on the cheap off ebay and move on to intel at the next major upgrade.

BF2 Engine is not optimised for multicore cpus, it utilizes only one core. you can get 12 core cpu and will stay with the same result, just try to get your cpu as fast as possible, i overlocked my 2500k from 3.4 to 4.2 Ghz, and i got now about 10-15 fps more than before

Pentium G3258, runs every map above 60(last time I checked I was at around 9-100fps in fallujah).
Shits on any amd for PR.

I just picked up an Intel 4790K based on it's single core performance. I'm going to overclock it of course and see how it handles PR. I'll let you guys know. Microcenter had a special on it for $249.99

Why isn't the new Pentium on that list thought it would be right up there?

The G3258? It just missed out in being in that screenshot. It's single thread performance score is 2,181.PLODDITHANLEY wrote:Why isn't the new Pentium on that list thought it would be right up there?

(Granted all these scores are at stock.)

The G3258 overclocked single thread performance is by far the best bang for the buck available right now.
Those of us close to a Microcenter store can get a G3258 and MSI z97 Gaming Mobo for US$99 + tax.
Add in a $30 212 Hyper Evo and $5 thermal paste and you can get a single thread number near the 4790k stock single thread score.
$135 for CPU/MOBO/CPU COOLER
microcenter also stacks a combo for $65 8 GB of 1600 RAM (Crucial Sport)
$200+ tax and you got a base system that can match a $300 Core i7-4790 CPU.
