PR Dead Lately

Post by StandardSmurf »

It's getting hard to find servers compared to even six months ago. Currently it's December 2014, and for example tonight, a weeknight, a total of 50 players total all deployment servers. So where is everyone ? I really don't want to believe that PR is dying, I like this mod too much. Also with PR 2 and Squad coming out, what kind of system specs are going to be required ? PR has been pretty cool since most machines can run it, true it's laggy and glitchy at times, but overall it's still smooth enough for immersion. So that's all, just worried about the mod population, I hope a bunch of hard headed angry and trigger happy admins didn't just piss off half the community, which wouldn't surprise me too much. Cheers.

You'll see more players with the release of 1.3 (hopefully with PR:F & WW2) until Squad is finished (PR2 will never come btw).
But you are right that PR is dying slowly which is sad but normal for such an old game.

School exams possibly. Give it until the winter holidays and then see how active it will get.

I am not sure about you, but the European servers (NEW & PRTA EU) are pretty active. The American servers aren't really the same, which is probably what you're referring to.

School, work, other things to do, etc.

Also it was a weekday. It's been like this since I began playing in March, same amount of players. Just wait for the week end and 1.3 to come out.

Regardless, there are at the very very least two full servers at all times (at least when I play).

These threads are stupid. All they do is discourage newcomers. There are 284 people on right now, which pre 1.0 meant 6 full servers. On a Tuesday afternoon during exam week...

Yea, school finals are going on now. While a lot of older players are out of school (graduated), a good chunk of them are busy as all hell right now.

Even if those 'pr dead?' threads came up a hundred times in the last couple of years, PR still has it's regular player base. True, numbers are decreasing, but that's more than common for such an old game (especially mod) so use the chance and enjoy it as long as possible, because these days it still is.

I'm honestly not sure about v1.3 coming out that soonish like you were used to the frequency of updates between 1.0 and 1.2, as the release key DEVs (including myself) went inactive.

But yeah, we still got peeps working on progress AND every day more DEVs (old and new ones) are coming out of their holes again, so I'm positive that the next update happens in 2015.

And also, PR:BF2 has never disappointed with a little something during winter time, right? ;)

Hello everybody!

Im quite new to PR, I am playing for 4 weeks (my brother introduced me), but quite extensively. I enjoyed the game so much that I have convinced my friends to try PR to play together, as squad. Yesterday we had full squad of friends, so it means 8 new players - noobish, but willing to learn&enjoy.

Main problem we had with "installation party" was where the hell to get BF2 from. It is impossible to get it from steam, origin, stationary shops etc after EA ceased to support. We were eager to pay moderate fee to get original game, but it was impossible. Yeah, I know some say that you can pay 20$ on amazon or somewhere, but hardly anyone will pay 20$ to check the 10year old game out.

Of course we managed with some alternative ways of obtaining files, the same way PR client is distributed. But then we had issues with servers and invalid cd-key messages and problems with entering servers. It was very very frustrating, some of my friends gave up. We had finally managed it for 8 of us, but it was quite an effort. But we were always very very stubborn.

Main point I want to highlight is that the problem with BF2 is a bottleneck that will stop inflow of new players. With a natural outflow of players (other games, work, family, studies, boredom) the number of active players will only decrease. Of course there are other problems, like user-hostile interface, loads of information to learn, server crashes, and players who want to only play with pros, reluctant to teach. But lets focus on this FIRST wall every has to climb.

There are legions of people wanting to try (check bluedrake's gameplays videos comments!!) but in my opinion only ~10%, desperate&motivated, with some computer skills (remember that not everybody posseses skills even to download torrent file) will succeed, and try to play, and have chance to become part of PR community.

People want to check the game, enter this forum ask how to start, and they read - get ORIGINAL bf2, we will ban you for illegal copy bla bla bla, our policy is clear. Ok... but where from? Oh noes, there is no such place, ok thank you it was nice to see those sexy gameplays on youtube, but I will come back to my CS:GO then....

Are there any possibilities to make one installation client consisting updated BF2 & PR?

Is it possible that PR servers could turn off cd-key check?

and finally

Is it possible that PR community will officially advice to get copy of BF2 from wherever possible ("illegal" sources also) to try PR? This could help to maintain playerbase, and lure players to spend unused money on donations for PR&servers (as I and my friends did).

We understand your concerns and will consider all options, but we also need to keep in mind the law as endorsing piracy could prove harmful to us as a creative team.

For now, I'll have to continue suggesting to buy BF2 legally off ebay, amazon or likeweise, knowing that it's expensive.

No, Elektro. EA pulled BF2 from all retailers, online stores etc.

While old Steam versions still work and the store page still exists, no new keys are being generated / sold.

It was possible months ago, now you cannot buy BF2 on steam (it appears as game, but actually you cannot buy it). If I am wrong (I wish I am), please provide us with instructions how to do it.

I haven't had any trouble finding a server with players so idk what you're talking about. there are usually ~200 players on at any given time. Usually more.

Because it's not fun anymore.

What's the point of walking for 20 minutes, only to get shot and have to respawn in your main? Especially in Insurgency. You can't see where you're being shot from, you can't hide from flirs, and you can barely take down armor without getting really lucky. Civi's are damn near useless. There is no safe way to get between caches without exposing yourself to almost certain death. There's no more deception. I used to love making fake caches for the blufor to waste their tickets on. I used to love having a civi meat shield squad crowd around me and use them to get close enough to blufor and open fire.

Right now I stick to co-op because it's got the amazing PR gunplay but set in a more fast paced and forgiving environment. And the bots are smart which is what I like. I'd love to run my own PR co-op server with my own scripts(no bots), but the server licensing won't let me.
