Anyone use a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth Edition 2014 for FPS gaming? Reviews pls

So, I just bought a new keyboard without having ever actually seen or used one in person. So does anyone in the PR community use any of the Razer keyboards with the new Razer Orange keys? How have you liked it, how's it feel for wasd strafing, and responsiveness etc in fps gaming? Can you compare it to other keyboards?

thanks,

The keyboard felt nice.

However, the matted plastic on it attracted the littlest touches and you couldn't wash off the fingerprints that were on the edges. The keys will melt if you are in a room that is somewhat "warm" which is pretty weird. The keys are also very loud and clicky, although from a gamer perspective they are assuring with their clickiness they get annoying really fast especially for those who are playing with you having to listen to the clicks for hours on end.

Razer's cheap manufacturing style of their braided cable allows easy ability to permanently tangle your cables unless you're willing to pull out some sort of heatpress.

My suggestion would to not get a Black Widow, but rather get the Vengeance K70, I have had a black widow previously for two years and I switched to my K70 a few months ago and I have to say that the K70 is the greatest keyboard I have ever used in my life. The keys are quiet, yet they still have mechanical switches so it is perfect for gaming. And, the keys are interchangable & there are two sets of #1-#6 and WASD keys that are either smooth or textured for gaming addition.

Any other questions hit me up on skype, hope this helps you out.

I had an early (2010 era) BlackWidow until recently, but the keycaps became very slippery and no amount of cleaning could help... I decided to switch over to the Cherry MX Blue K70 (also available in red or brown MX switches), and it is by far the better keyboard, even the switches feel better. The textured keys on the K70 feel a bit awkward, but I guess that is just me. Keep in mind that that the Blue LED K70s have a reputation for dying LEDs. My friend's K70 RGB and my own red K70 are almost 6 months strong however.

I'm looking into mechanical keyboards myself at the moment. I wouldn't suggest razer. Given they refuse to use Cherry keys and let them be imported from China, they are still sub-par to cherry's. And those keyboards are still way overpriced IMO. And the overall buildquality is meh for the price.

@bren: mechanical keys of K70's also make a lot of noise when you choose MX blue on them :D It's just a matter of choice what kind of keys you want with feedback, deep presses,... And if I recall the razer ones simply are made similar after Cherry blue's. Which make a lot of noise. Which are not ideal for gaming btw Lito :D
EDIT: it seems the version lito has 'orange' razer keys. Which are silent. Which means they are more similar to reds/browns. meaning they shouldn't be too bad for gaming afterall.

You rather get browns/reds or maybe blacks if you like to put more pressure before it registers. The problem with reds against blue's is that it's more difficult to type with for some. Given they register fast which can result often in double-registers when you only want to type one letter.

Also don't buy the K70 or K95. Like X-Alt says their LEDs break super fast(within days) cause of static electricity problems. These have been solved in the new RGB keyboards but they are quite pricy :D

Overall, there is simply nothing that suits me atm :(
I want :
-cherry MX red(or if not available browns at most)
-multimedia keys(dedicated)
-backlights (preferably blue/White/RGB)
-wrist rest included
-strong buildquality
-less then 150€

And that's not available atm it seems :( I'll just wait myself. I suggest to do the same until Corsairs supreme keyboards drop severely in price.

I had the same list of features, sans the backlights and wanted to pay less.

There are some options, Ducky Shine 3, Tesoro Colada Evil G3NL, Das Keyboard 4 Professional

Anyways, I just bought some O-ring kit, wasdkeyboard blues, to make them even quieter. hope it works.

Only the blue\white LEDs suffer from the bad LEDs. I have not heard of a single RGB\Red LED one going out, and besides the basic K95, the boards with affected LEDs are off the market. K70s have MX Brown\Red\Blue avaliable, and with the recent Gaming line, they have added this one, it appears to have a much more reliable of LED compared to the old Silver\Blue ones. Mind the (somewhat) ugly sticker. http://www.corsair.com/en-us/corsair-ga ... rry-mx-red

@lito: are razer keyboards capable of exchanging keys? I didn't know that. Ducky's don't have proper media keys and no wrist rest below 50 bucks. Don't know the other ones but they ain't available here probably.

@X-Alt:Not sure why you are pretty much repeating me :D Did you read my post? I already said that RGB's indeed have their leds fixed and that K70's are available in all key forms. Also there are still tons of them here in belgium for sale with the broken LEDS. Pretty much why I held of my buy as not going to buy a broken product.

BUT OH WAIT. Blue LEDs+ cherry RED? NEED :D Can you talk a bit more how the new ones have fixed LEDS? can't read much on that it seems. Don't seem available over here just yet though.

This color scheme was created after the RGB line was released, and their line was renamed to "Corsair Gaming". Judging from reviews on the sites, there are no reported dying LED issues, which makes sense. They seem to be NA exclusive, but it could have EU shipping.

thanks,
I consider myself a keyboard snob. I have used just about every mechanical keyboard brand from Ducky, to Logitech and just about everything in between.

With that said, I've used both of the new razer switches and they were ok. I wouldn't say they were any better or worse than Cherry MX Blues or Cherry MX Browns, but I did prefer their Orange switches over the Greens. My only gripes with Razer are the F key placement and the keycap plastics used. I don't like ABS plastic for keycaps because I hate how quickly they wear down. Razer doesn't use anything special for key caps compatibility, so you can replace them, but the overall style of the keyboard makes it difficult to replace keys with custom key caps.

For gaming in general, it mostly comes down to switch preference. My first mechanical keyboard had Cherry MX Blue switches and I didn't think I would ever like any other switch. I tried out Browns and like them more, then tried out Reds which is my favorite. I kept the trend going when I got my first keyboard with black, greens, and clears, but I always gravitated back to my keyboards with reds.. except for my Corsair keyboards which I hated because of the physical size of the board and how it didn't work very well with my wrist rests. Why do I tell you this? Because you will probably have the same experience that I did where the first mechanical keyboard you get might not be your favorite. So try out different ones if you have the chance to.

My go-to keyboard for the past several months is actually not the most expensive. I love my CM Storm Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX Red switches. I bought a full set of thick PBT plastic key caps for it and haven't really used any of my other boards since. My Ducky Shine 2 and Filco majestouch come in a close 2nd but I gravitate toward 10-keyless boards because I like how natural it feels having my hands rest where they do with a 10-keyless.

TLDR: Try out some different switches and brands. The new Razer switches aren't bad but design flaws are the killer for me.

Sigh, just got my keyboard and installed the O-ring kit, wasdkeyboard blues, and those two gripes are already my gripes. 40 minutes of use and the keys are collecting oils from my skin already. already had to rebind F1 to macro3 key too.

Tequila, you have any sggestions for a wrist wrest for this Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard ? My default choice has been the Fellowes beanbag wrist wrests, but maybe there are better options.

I don't know how it would work with the slope on the razer keyboard, but I love Grifiti wrist rests. They are the perfect height for my Filco and CM keyboards that use very standard chassis. You can find them on amazon for pretty cheap and they last forever. I have had both of mine (short and long versions for standard and short keyboards) for 3-4 years now. Right when I was going to replace them from being extremely dirty, I washed them using regular hand soap and when they dried, they were just as clean/good as the day I got them. They looked and felt brand new. The felt on top hasn't worn out at all, even with 8-10 hours of use a day from work and gaming.

Here is a link for the one I use. The longer one I have isn't one of their "fat" models and doesn't feel the same (its more spongy). I highly recommend this one, even from full sized keyboards. It has 2 layers: The top layer of foam is softer and is about 3mm thick and the bottom bit is firmer and about 1/2" thick. The full sized one is made up entirely of the softer foam material and doesn't feel as supportive.
