Hello everyone,
I've been playing PR on and off for quite a few years now and PR Mumble has been the most impressive VOIP solution for a Milsim I've ever used. So then, I was wondering if there would be a way to create a PR Mumble Server to use independently of Project Reality?
The idea is that a bunch of mates and I playing KotH in Arma 3 and we need a VOIP system that allows us to be segmented into different fire teams while allowing cross communication between those fire teams. The solution we've come up with is two channels in my Teamspeak 3 server and using the group channel in Arma for cross communication between the fire teams. It works but it would be better if we can eliminate the need to use the crappy Arma VOIP that tends to be laggy.
Anyone here have any ideas or solutions?
Thanks in advance.

Re: PR Mumble Questions
PR mumble servers do not work with other games. They only link with BF2 from what I know. But PR mumble is build on the Mumble API which is available to anyone and I'm sure certain modders have made it work with arma(3).
Mumble, the open source VoIP solution
But I can suggest ACRE for arma ? This uses teamspeak from what I remember and works pretty well (I used it in Arma 2). And I'm sure there are other solutions too.

Re: PR Mumble Questions
Thank you for the reply and pointing me in the right direction. But...
I'm not really looking for a solution that will replace or tie into the game itself, more like a server that I can create myself and host on my own machine that allows for cross channel communication. Features like the local channel isn't needed. Just a hot key to allow a user in channel one to broadcast into channel two would do the trick. If there is a way for TS3 or vanilla Mumble to allow this without alt-tabbing and manually switching channels I've yet to find it.
In the case of ACRE, I'm unsure if that mod is supported in the KotH mod but I'm asking around and researching to find out the answer to that question. As for playing around with Mumble API, well I'm a network engineer and system admin, other than power shell and bash I have limited programming skills.

Re: PR Mumble Questions
Can't believe how simple the solution was. Well /a/ solution that does the job quickly and simply. Just going to post it here if anyone wants to setup a similar system.
So then, in TS3 you can assign a hot key to switch channels (cursing myself at how complicated I was making the problem). Of course you'll need to turn off the TS3 Announcer so you don't hear 'channel switched' during gameplay.
Consider the layout of your TS3 server, mine is as such:
Arma
|
Fire Team Alpha
|
Fire Team Bravo
In this case I've set the limit of Max Users in the Arma channel to 0 as the channel is just there for organisational purposes. This can be done by right clicking the channel, Edit Channel, selecting the Advanced tab and under Max Users clicking the Limited radio button and setting it to 0.
Now for the heart of the matter. In the TS3 window select Settings, Options, Hotkeys, Add, Show Advanced Actions and find the Switch to Channel in the list of actions and double click on Switch Channel. From here you'll be given a subset of actions for Switch to Channel, select the Switch to Next Channel (Same Level) option and assign a key. This will allow you to switch between the Fire Team Alpha and Bravo channels without being moved to the Arma channel or any other on the server.
Other Switch to Channel options include; Switch to Channel (Channel Family), this would include switching to the Arma channel, if you've heard about parent/child relationships from your Windows or Linux teachers then this will make perfect sense. Switch to Channel (Global) switches between all channels on the server, note that switching channels runs from top to bottom. All other settings are self explanatory.
I hope this will help others who are looking to setup a BF2
R like VOIP system for other games.
Cheers dudes, have a good one.
