I'd been getting the age old "Graphics card driver has stopped responding and has been restored." windows error message. So far it had only been a pain, but rarely a problem. Played games with no issue.
Yesterday I started up PR, alt-tabbed to check the change-log, and switched back. I was not in-game, but in the multiplayer lobby. I selected a server to play on and the game momentarily hung, as is normal, while updating server status. It never came back. I couldn't bring up task manager, alt-f4, or alt-tab, so I went for a hard restart. It hasn't booted up since then.
Last time something like this happened, I ended buying a new cpu and motherboard.
I believe this happens because BF2 is a legacy game and probably isn't optimized to run on the latest OSes. At any rate, be warned that under similar circumstances, your pc might break as mine has.

That issue might be related to gpu, just remove it and if you have intel cpu, connect display cables to the mobo. Then you can be 100% sure that gpu have died.
And I am running pr on windows 8 for like 2 years and no issues. Its the hardware, that failed you, not the game.

I've played PR for years as well. This issue has been persistant no matter what I replace. I've had 3 mobo's, new GPU, CPU, memory and PSU. Never had this problem until Win 8. I'll probably build a new rig.

Hmm... Maybe its super rare build configuration? It feels like, something was not working or configured properly.doop-de-doo wrote:I've played PR for years as well. Like, I got my new rig, went straight Win 8.1, everything runs smooth, with no problem at all.

I always put a speaker on the mobo, those beep codes help.
