Microphone static and no recognition
So I've used my microphone that is built into my laptop and an external microphone that plugs into the 3.5mm jack. In game, the other players hear nothing but static from me. I've updated the drivers, deleted and reinstalled them. I tried to set up the mics and the computer didn't recognize me saying anything while I was screaming into them. I had to do a full system recovery while I was on my deployment, and I didn't have internet access so I'm thinking that's the culprit and I may have to do another recovery. The mics worked flawlessly before I deployed. Any other suggestions?
I have an iBuyPower Battalion 101 CZ-9 Ultra laptop with Win7 and on board integrated sound card.

Plus in the external mic.
on desktop...
right click Computer Icon, click to Manage.
GO to Device Manager.
Disable the built in Mic.
GO to Control Panel, audio device manager or taskbar->audio icon->recording devices and get to audio device manager,
choose the external mic as your default recording device. While still selecting external mic, Click Properties, then levels tab, then put volume to 100 and mic boost to 30+Db.
I think that should do it.

Re: Microphone static and no recognition
well, it's not difficult to look for updated audio driver, and install it.
Driver Downloads
Original Manufactor Model#: JHL90
http://ftp.compal.com/asp/driver_dnd/e_ ... T0x/Driver
you could burn a Linux LiveCD and boot into it, see if you automatically pick up the linux audio drivers, and see if it works in that environment.
YOu can download drivesweeper and check your drivers, if up to date.
It's possible you broke the jack,
It's possible your external mic is broken,
It's possible the internal mic cable, if the mic is on the screen panel, got pinched in the hinge and causing a short. Probably not the case.
check the mic on any other device you can,
open "Sound recorder" in win7 and record a file and save it. At least you'll know what static other people are hearing.
So many possibilities, non of which are hard to diagnose in front of PC, but really tough to do from afar.
With drivesweeper you can back up your audio drivers, then install your new drivers, . If anything gets worse, you can then open drivesweeper again and revert to old drivers.
You could actually save your drivers in drivesweeper, uninstall the built in Mic from Device Manager, then reboot. See what that does.
If no good effect, reinstall built in mic, then uninstall your other audio component. reboot.
See if it fixes, If no good effect, reinstall.
After doing that, you'll basically eliminate a software/drivers issue, which leaves a broken piece of hardware, you might have yanked the mic connector out of it's solder. It's a DIY repair or find a techie type with a small solder iron and a light touch to open the case without breaking the plastic tabs that hold the laptop case together. iBUyPower might have a service manual available to guide you through disassembly.

Re: Microphone static and no recognition
Tried drivers, nothing. Opened up the case and all of the wires and solder look fine. I can't say it's specifically the mic itself because when I plug one in it does the same thing.

Re: Microphone static and no recognition
Try to plug your current external mic into any other PC/stereo/whatever you can find and test it.
OPen task manager and make sure you don't have any other programs that might steal/use the microphone and audio drivers, like skype or winamp agent or itunes or whatever.
Not trying to be pedantic, but just making sure you've done these steps correctly,
Scroll down to "How to Change the Default Recording Device" at this link and look quickly:
How to Change the Default Playback & Recording Audio Device | 7 Tutorials
.........
IF you have done that correctly, and still not working, you could try uninstalling the built in Mic in Device Manager. However, you should install drivesweeper and back up your drivers before you do this, and/or download the audio drivers from the link in the above post.
After uninstalling your audio drivers, make sure you plug in your external mic, then reboot.
Upon windows starting , you should get "new hardware wizard", you can let windows automatically install the drivers as the linked drivers above have passed WHQL and should be in MIcrosoft's library of automatic driver downloads.
If that doesn't fix things,... for either/both the internal and external mic, you might be screwed, might have a short or your mobo, the internal mic/headphones cable header might be lose on the mobo connection, orthe external mic could be not grounded (this is where I'd place my bet).
If you can't find a cause, Another option is to buy a USB mic, or USB headset,
Logitech sells some cheap mics, you can buy off brand ones from websites like meritline.com or ebay or whatever on the cheap too.
Others on this website will attest to the USB headsets, I haven't used them myself.

I'm not an expert but has to worth exhausting the software issues, any modded BIOS or drivers for your sound/codec hardware? Has a reinstall changed anything?
How old is your mobo?
Could you get a cheap soundcard even though iirc nothings 'cheap' in Brasil!

Re: Microphone static and no recognition
I am far from an expert so may be talking ****, but I assume that a PCI sound card would cut out quite alot of the hardware being used when a mic is plugged in from the front or back of a PC?
Taking an extreme example from this Gigabyte sniper with LED barrier (what nonsense IMHO) surely all this hardware is unused if a PCI sound card is used??

But as I say I don't know just trying to help, but I think I'd try that myself, and or try a USB headset?

Yes, but can bring other troubles, i've read a few problems caused by them here.
Once again my French shop
If it was me I'd try a sound card first as I'm convinced a PCI sound card is direct to the chipset, so if your problem is from the sound/codec parts of your motherboard then they won't be used anymore.

Re: Microphone static and no recognition
Well check your realtek driver version and see if mobo has any updated bios that does anything about Jack sensing or audio?
Never seen a mobo without a PCI x1
