Hamachi Co-op connection problem

Post by Panzerfire »

Sooo, first post in I think over a year. A friend of mine got me back into PR after 1.3 came out and so far so good. We don't trust ourselves to play in the main servers just yet and we wanted to get a hang of the game in co-op mode.

However I am having some problems trying to establish a "LAN" connection through Hamachi.

Now, we both have the latest version of Hamachi and each one have set up their own server just to try to see who was better at hosting a game. We're both connected to the same server. Either his or mine depending on who hosts the game.

When he is hosting his co-op game, I use his IP adress to connect directly and it initially works. I get whatever map he is playing loading but right after the game finishes loading the map, it crashes to desktop with the typical "Unloading resources" window we get after exiting PR:BF2.

When it's me hosting the match, he uses my IP adress to connect directly to it but no dice, he doesn't seem to be able to connect at all. No map found or loading.

This also happens on non co-op maps that he or I set up through the Deployment tab > Local > Create local.

I tried turning off the firewall in case that was preventing a connection to be established but that did not help.

I've read somewhere else in the forums that using offline accounts and try find the server trough the ingame LAN server list would do the trick but no server was found at all.

My friend and I have for now moved on to playing the internet co-op servers and that has worked just fine. We know it's not the maps since we have tried different ones and none have worked yet they work just fine in the internet servers.

I'm really out of ideas about setting a co-op game using Hamachi, is there something I may have overlooked? Could it be an issue of computer performance? Just in case I'll add my PC specs.

In the meanwhile we will just play in the internet servers. That has so far been great fun. But the goal of setting a Hamachi supported LAN game is still up because we want to goof around in some maps that don't get played much in the online servers.

I will greatly appreciate any tips or ideas on how I can fix this problem. :)

Thank you for your attention.

Try to use Tunngle, works like a charm. There is even PR dedicated room. It works for me and my friends every time we want to have some fun / crash some planes.

Tunngle huh? I will look into it this week. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll let you know if it works out for me. :)

Just an update, we tried Tunngle with one more friend and we encountered the same problem. He starts the game, I can find it through the list of available LAN networks so it works just fine up to that point. But after the map finishes loading, the game crashes again. Our other friend had the same issue. His PR crashed to desktop after finishing loading the map.

So now we think it was not a problem with Hamachi but with something else. I'll see if I can start a match using my own server and host myself and see if either one of my friends can join.

There are only two things I think that are messing up with the game. One it's either my friend hosting because of some unresolved firewall or connection issues, or the game is somehow bugged. I mean PR does have its fairly dose of bugs but I find hard to believe that LAN gaming would be one of them. :/

I'll let you guys know if we still have crasheswith someone else hosting.

The maps are unlikely to be the culprits since we tried quite many of them and each one of them works just fine in online internet servers.

Try to run the game in windowed mode. If it crashes then, it'll give you an error message popup. Sadly, this is usually a cryptic, useless one, but sometimes it can give a strong hint to where something goes wrong.

If your friend is unable to connect to your server at all, you are probably missing a port forward that Hamachi requires. I use Tunngle myself, which by default uses port 11155. Make sure you set your router to forward traffic from UDP port 11155 to your local IP, same port. Then your buddy should see your server and be able to connect to it.

For the Cooperative game-mode (Bots) any map that uses the BMP2 will crash, but like senshi said if you run in windowed mode it will display the error information.

Dont question the wikipedia! Just because it reports different things on different languages does not make it unreliable source!

Sorry for the delay, we haven't had a good chance to try out someone else to host trough either Hamachi or Tunngle yet. We'll try to do that on Saturday or Sunday. Senshi, I'll look into your suggestion as well and see if it's that what's causing our problem. But any problem with the connection would still allow a map to be detected and loaded before the game crashes?

Also I got a question on how to run PR in windowed mode. How do I do it if the PRLauncher graphic options won't do it? Because I have that option ticked and the game still starts in fullscreen.

Thanks guys for the help. :)

Hopefully we'll get this sorted out soon.

The launcher should be able to disable fullscreen. You sure you have disabled fullscreen on the same profile you start the game with? And pressed "Apply" in the Options?

If not, there was a possible issue with the profiles being read-only some time ago, but I think that was fixed. You could try launch PRLauncher as admin, just to be sure.

If there is no valid port forwarding between your computer and the router, incoming data will be "lost" at the router, because it doesn't know who to send it to. This means you won't be able to see other people's games in the lobby. The "establishing connection with server" part comes before any map loading starts.

I'd like to thank you all for the assistance you have provided.

But I am giving up on this.

I've searched some tutorials regarding port forwarding and I get held up by the issue that for some bizarre reason I can't access my router.

I put the router adress on the browser but nothing. It won't load.

If I can't access it, then no matter what I use, Hamachi or Tunngle, I can't port forward it to enable those connections to hold.

I'm out of ideas and to get a technician to fondle with the router because I'm too damn stupid to do it myself is a major bother than I'm not really eager to put up with.

Sorry to have wasted your time guys. :/ Thanks for the help 'though.

BTW, I did manage to get the windowed mode to work. I was changing the options in a different profile after all. ^_^; Sorry...

Here's the debug message I get after I joined a server but before I can play on it proper:
Image

Is this in anyway fixable?

I'll see if I can work out the issue on my router.

UPDATE: Well we finally got a break! xD Last night we managed to play a few games using Tunngle. Apparently after enabling some options at the firewall I can host games.
One of my friends was hosting the Tunngle server while I was hosting the PR Co-op LAN server. Not really the most ideal situation since I don't have the most stable of connections. But it worked out pretty good.
Me and two more guys were playing just fine for a few test rounds. However when I try to join a server someone else is hosting, I still get the above message so if there was still something I could do about that then I would appreciate it. I will continue my efforts at trying to gain access to the router for the port fowarding since I believe that that maybe what is causing me to CTD after joining Tunngle/Hamachi based LAN servers.

For now we'll try using the same layout as yesterday to play those maps we hardly ever get to play.
