Very long loading times

Post by Punkbuster »

Hello guys,

So I've recently reinstalled PR after almost 3 years... I now have an Alienware M17xR4 laptop on which I installed PR... The issue is, it's taking ages to load maps... If I was playing, and the round ends, it takes me over 5 minutes to load the next map, by which point the timer is usually 30 seconds until round starts, all squads are pretty much full... No way to reserve any sort of vehicle or gun... I used to play PR on my old desktop, which was from 2008, and was running 2 GB of RAM with a Core2Duo @3.2 Ghz and it used to only take 2 minutes or so for maps to load... This laptop is from 2012, and is a much better system, so why is it taking too long to load? What can I do to stop this?

Here are the specs from the PR launcher:

There is a thread discussing this somewhere,I'm not affected but iirc it is your anti-virus checking everything - AVG is pretty mean.
Look for exceptions and try with it off.

I don't use AVG, I use Microsoft Security Essentials... Could it be causing this?

Doubt it. I use MSE too without any issues. I reckon your hard drive is slowing down your loading time. Not quite sure how much you can do about it considering you've got a laptop.

I have MSE too. Maybe run a HD health check from WD or Seagate.

defrag? Put an SSD in? Is all your RAM showing up run memtest to confirm. At user benchmark you can run a quick benchmark which lets you compare your HD with others the same.

A Harddrive issue actually makes a lot of sense! My HDD seems very problematic! Whenever I go to Task Manager, the HDD usage is at 99% or 100% and my computers tends to freeze a lot when it's like that. Opening applications is also pretty slow sometimes. I've been considering a format for a while, but I haven't bothered doing it. My laptop hasn't been formatted for over 2 years, and I've upgraded to Windows 10 over my old existing Windows 7.

So you guys would say it's an HDD issue then?

No idea really, I think broken or faulty RAM could also slow loading times as I said above I've used HD testing utilities from WD and Seagate, DL and see what they say.

Well I just used the one from WD, ran the extended test, and it said Passed...

Test the RAM with memtest86, I think that contributes a lot to load times.

Is your auto defrag running?

Your HD isn't stuffed full it has a little space?

Run user benchmark to compare your hardware with the same.

I'll run memtest and report back.

Auto Defrag is running on a weekly basis. My HD is actually pretty full... Main partition (C:/) has around 40 GB free, secondary has less than 30.

Something is wrong there

Use task manager to find out which program is causing that. Use the details tab to see all programs running.

A million and one with the same- I'm not going to read them though.
