PLEASE, HELP, TerrainQuality: -1

Hi guys, can anyone help me? Because one day I change the audio settings and the game start to crash everytime that I want to play. This is what the Log say

and there should be some folders there. Open each of them and the inspect a file called Video.con - open that with Notepad or other text editor.

Check this line and make sure its not -1

Set values in all Video.con files in all folders on this location to this value. Make sure game or PR Launcher is not turned on while doing this.

Once all are changed or inspected, try to launch the game. Then go to support > utilities > and on clear shaders cache click Perform Taks, then close. Launch the game.


Also do not create duplicated topic with same issues.

Thanks for the reply, yes, after launching the game the files are like this:

But when I start the game, it crash to desktop and this is how the files get after the crash

Do you have issues with any other game besides PRBF2? Does you graphis card driver crash? Do you see any errors in windows event logs? Go to control panel > administrative tools > event viewer. Expand Windows Logs from the left side and then check Application logs and System logs? Do you see any errors there, critical or not?

This might also be the driver issue. Since you have GT740 I advise agianst using latest Nvidia drivers, since Ive heard some of them are buggy and even causing kernel drivers to crash.

Thanks and no, I never have errors with other games, it's the first time in almost 5-6 years that I have a problem in Project Reality, and is a very strange one. I don't see any kind of logic in this problem. This started to happend some day when before opening the game I change the Audio setting in the launcher, I was using Sofware>Medium. And I change it to Hardware>High and the game just get broken. If I mark the Video.con to Read Only while the game is loading, the game don't crash, but when I enter to a game I see the empty map with the ground texture only. So I assume that the problem is something when the game try to load the Video.con file, but I don't have any idea of why.

Open Profiles folder and delete everything. Yes folders and files. Make sure you know your login credentials you will need it to retrieve your profile/account.

Download this and extract to Profiles folder. You should have now only Default folder along with three con files. Dont open them or touch them. Make sure they ar enot blocked by smartscreen or something similar. Right click and unblock.

Make sure launcher and game are closed while doing this. Do not lauch just yet!

One step back from Profiles folder and enter mods/bf2 folder. You should see cache folder there. Delete it.

Now is time to run the launcher, but make sure you run it with Administrator priviledge. Run as Admin.

Retrieve profile. Tweak your setting. Dont touch audio quality, especially dont put it on hardware with onboard sound card.

Should work now.

Note that it will take some time to regenerate shaders during first time loading a MP game. Dont close the game or ALT+TAB while doing this. Do not run any overlays during first run.

If it works now and you can play, now its time to try your overlay software. I recomend MSI afterburner, but its your choice. Dont touch anything there you do not understand.

Its easy to brick things, fixing them takes experience and time. Patience too.

Its the best answer I receive in months and I'm very thankfull but didnt work, I did all exactly how you say but nothing, when the loading % get to 15 % in objects the game close, also it close in the main menu after 1-20 seconds or sometimes inmediatly, the log always say the same

You know how I can make this get to one of the devs? And yes, I spend a lot of days redowloading the ISO for posibilities of corruptes files and reinstalling... I'm thinking that my only choose is to reinstall the entire OS. Thanks a lot bro, have a nice day and if you have some other idea it's accepted

This isn't the first time I've see this deleting con files, have you tried putting them as read only, mine are and yet they still change....

THANKS YOU. You give a idea. I restore a old Profiles backup, get in the properties of the folder, I changed some stuff with the permissions and is working now. I put all the files in Read Only and I check something and is working again now. Thanks.

Mmm... It worked for 1 match. I close the game and when I tried to get it open again I get error 1332 about permissions but nothing was with Read-Only. I restart my pc. Use a Backup again, I uncheck in Avanced Setting in the propiertis of Profiles, I uncheck the box that say something like: Allow this folder has files indexed
The strange thing is that when it worked, I was marked to keep the Read Only and the launcher don't give me any error, and now it give me again this fucking shit about Terrain Quality: -1 I dont know what happend... I'm going to try with this and I let you know if I fix it...

EDIT: I MADE IT WORK AGAIN. I CREATE A BACKUP WITH THIS MARKED



Im not sure if you understand this... I dont have time now but later I can do a step by step guide.
You have to make a Backup like that with you current profile, and you only restart you PC, paste that, reemplace everything and play That is what is working for me...

I use OneDrive and MS online account and must say I never had this kind of issue and OneDrive is running all the time.

All folders default to Read Only in Documents, files are not, and should not be unless needed.

For the devs if they are listening - move the damn profiles out of system directory to game folder!


Back to OP... are you launching PR as admininstrator? Do you have admin rights on Documents folder and Profiles?

The game is working now, I really don't know what happend, I just have to paste the backup, restart the pc and open the game... Because if I don't restart the Launcher give me the error about Read Only, but if I restart the files keep on Read Only but the Launcher don't say anything and the game work perfect
