Win10 crash on start-up

Post by rastatchav »

Hi. I've recently got the Project Reality launcher to work after some googling.
I downloaded the files in this thread and used them. https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr-bf2-support/136815-critical-error.html
After making a new profile and moving the files over, I start the game and get the normal intro with the soldiers and explosions. But when the dogstags pop up and the game moves into the menu, it crashes instantly.

I get this message and nothing else.

Can anyone here help me out? I have added Project Reality to the windows firewall as well, but I'm not sure if I did it properly. There are no logs to paste either. Here are my specs.

For some strange reason your Graphics are not showing up in the specs, I am on a tablet but if you look at most other threads they will have specs in under display devices like gtx 970 and PNP monitor at 1920x1080 @ 60 hz.

I see you have 4GB of VRAM so you have a discreet GPU, for some odd reason PR is not seeing your GPU.

Are those downloadable profiles 0000 files still available in the thread you linked? We get a few problems here from the config files in documents being corrupted and incomplete, sometimes the problem seems to have something to do with one drive.

Yes, the files are still downloadable in the thread, post number 8. I'm not sure why it wouldn't see my graphics card though, I'll try updating my drivers. (gtx 680)

Edit: Didn't help. I'm a bit unsure what to do about it.

Check.your documents/projectreality/profiles aren't being erased. Have you tried to place that file in the correct place as the guy in the thread also had the two blanks in the spec paste too.

The files are placed in the profile folder, I don't think they're getting erased.

I've also attempted setting a custom resolution and disabling the splash screen, none of which helped.

However, Project Reality isn't actually writing to the file. I've made a new Video.con and put it in the original ones place, but it remains blank.

This is the key to it, but I haven't worked out why this happens to some people - I blame One Drive ( but very likely I am completely wrong) Please see here to see my profiles files and properties to compare. I can see you don't have haptic or Demo bookmarks but maybe they are only created once the game is launched? Mine have been opened with wordpad so don't show an unknown icon - wouldn't hurt to try that.

This guyhad an erasing con files issue too, it is odd you can see on my posts that my files are all marked read only at parent (profiles) level but even though they aren't lower down.

Can you try and switch of One Drive, mark files read only (I think they will be anyway) then install new profiles, by deleting documents C:\Users\bjorn\Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles then open the PRBF2.exe file in the F:\Project Reality BF2 directory once.

It will get to main menu and say "you must use launcher". However it will also recreate your \Profiles directory when it launches.

Then Run PRLauncher.exe to test.

I congratulate your efforts - I'm not much off a techy sorry, we have the same win10 and exactly the same .NET which I know can write config files.
