I suffer from File Verification 1301

Post by WeeGeez »

Please see attachment, tried all suggestions to fix on the forum to no avail.

My guess is it has something to do with the fact I access the web from a 'public' hotspot. It's my neighbors router and I have wifi dongle.

Whats weird is I used this same connection without issue, played 1.5 only last month. The only difference was different motherboard.

Do you happen to have any AV or firewall running? If yes, try whitelisting PR or disable it while playing. Also ask your neighbour about blocked ports in the router.

No AV/Firewall running. It could be the router software/ISP blocking those ports?
It would be really helpful if the DEVS could code PRLauncher to be more specific about errors. Its either a network issue or as [R-DEV]?LITOralis.nMd suggests, related to .NET, something entirely separate. I have tried repairing .NET and installing .net3.5 and 4 then repair in that order still nothing. Dx9c is also fully installed.

FYI This link does open via my router..

Something fishy in Windows Running Services.msc, in particular:
Net.TCP Porth Sharing Service - Not Running (Manually started it)
Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v.4.0.30319_X86 - Not Running (This one won't start)

NGEN won't start because System Perf. Logs and Alerts dependancy isn't installed.
Because NGEN is a .NET component, its possibile this is the problem, in hindsight of suggestions to repair .NET.

Can a dev or anyone please confirm if error 1301 appears if they turn off Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN?
It can be turned off then back on easily via Run... > Services.msc (attempt to run PR when its off).

Thats not it. I have it disabled and no issues.
The HTTPS it is trying to access in your process monitor has an invalid certificate:

Code: Select all

https://a23-212-233-12.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com
I do not know if this is an issue on your end (more your neighbors end :p ) or on the CDN. If you can rule out this being a problem on your end, we can try to get in contact with the CDN host. If anyone else is getting this same error, please let us know.
If nothing helps we might need to add option to ignore SSL errors, but I would rather not.

Thanks for the feedback.

Actually;
I had a problem with chromium based browsers similar to this. HTTP would automatically redirect to HTTPS (a feature of chromium can't disable). In turn all HTTPS incl. http addresses refused to connect.
In order to connect an exception could be added, following that all 'non secure content' on site would showe up blank.
A tedious remedy was to export any given websites certificate, to save that, then import it to chrome. This would return normal access but did not work for all sites.

I switched to firefox fork based browser (seamonkey and k-melon) no issues there.
Anyone know if chroumium -based browsers use elements of IE on windows machines?

Its likely https on this machine/router/OS. Give me a day or two and I'll look some more. Really random. Clean OS install next to no other apps installed other than PR and its dependencies.

That domain is mentioned together with malware in some forums, so maybe not good idea to accept all the certificates manually.

Thanks.
I stopped using chromium altogether (don't trust google).

I didn't realise https://a23-212-233-12.deploy.static.ak ... logies.com was not PR related!

Its likely hot spot monitoring / firewall proxy. For instance, for users using BT open hot spots (theres millions around UK), google safe search is forced to ON. This is deliberate on BTs part and can't be changed.

Can changing " GeneralSettings.setConnectionType 5 " in General.con do anything?

There is no way around it. Maybe installing the cert as trusted certificate in windows can help, but tbh I would rather try to get rid of this than fight HTTPS.

Can't launch the game, can't update

Post by VoidsX »

Im a old PR player returning but I have some issues, I had a 1.4 installation that was interrupted due to bad internet, so I DLed version 1.5 instead, then installed. When I try to launch the game, it says something similar to 'failed to connect to remote server', and checking for updates tells me I have the latest version even though its not even connecting, in the folder I found this log message:

Code: Select all

Project Reality Log File
PRLauncher.exe started at: 2018-07-07T15:34:02

Warning: Unable to load latest version information

 > The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.
So I did a clean reinstall after restarting and it DLed update 1.5.4 but once applied I get "unable to contact verification server". No idea whats happening or whats causing it.. for the record the old 1.4 installation was connecting and updating successfully, it was just interrupted due to shitty connection.

Only basic Windows firewall, and there's an exception for PR, actually there's 4 exceptions including mumble.

I guess you get the 1301 error?
Try this: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showth ... p?t=124694
Or it might be same issue as this: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showth ... p?t=147915

Can you do something similar to Weegeez and check what URL the launcher is accessing using Process Monitor?

Problem is it only shows prupdater.exe with alot of reads and writes, I tried filtering prlauncher.exe but nothing shows up. Thats what the launcher does, goes straight to patching and gives an error message at the end. I think it might be a local problem..

Go to your PR directory and look for update.lock file. Copy that to desktop as backup, then delete it in PR folder. Launch PR and see what it does

Now it gives the 1301 error + says its up to date when its 1.5.0, I will try a system restore and see if it fixes it.
