PR:BF2 has closed, cleaning up resources.

Post by Tyr_Oblivion »

I have installed the game and have updated it to the newest version.

I am unable to launch the game and recieve this message "PR:BF2 has closed, cleaning up resources." without ever seeing a screen flicker.

Try running windowed and tell us if you get an error message

That is done via unticking fullscreen? If so it did not fix the issue. I've tried many things like compatibility modes, dx9, unticking intro movie.

Then it's not BF2. Something is blocking it.

-Check mods/or/bin/prlaucnher.log
-Run as admin
-Remove AVG/Avast

I had a recent problem with Rockstar Social Club where the fix was a temporary system override of a Win 10 exploit (Force randomization of images) which then allowed be to launch that program. Could there be a similar issue with this launcher and Win 10 exploit protection?

That's not an "exploit" and it will absolutely break PR.

I did a fresh install (for all users) with the torrent and ran the updates, created a profile and still no luck. Ran as admin, compatibility, windowed and still the same result. I'm giving up. :? ??: It produces no error code and no log whatsoever, it closes as if i'm exiting the game.

Does it close fast? Or a few seconds?
Try to attach procdump to it before it closes: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showth ... p?t=147961

Have you disabled image address randomization?

It crashes immediately but I discovered the fix,

In windows exploit protection navigate to the file:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Project Reality\Project Reality BF2\PRBF2.exe

Allow it to override "Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)" keep the check off so it does not allow stripped images.

It will then launch the game as per its normal operation.

PR will not work with a randomized image address, as I said.

We've made changes directly to the BF2 binary and they reference absolute addresses.

This fixed it. I can provide video proof if you need since it seems out of the ordinary. It's a legitimate "fix".

After switching to a LG CX OLED I am getting this problem as well. Could this solution work for me as well or is it something else? I am trying to run 4k @ 120hz and I can see my display turning on HDR when the game tries to run even though PR doesn't use HDR and HDR isn't turned on in windows. When all 3 4k, 120hz, and HDR are running it can surpass the 18gb threshold of HDMI 2, so I'm that could be that problem I thought, but even when I reduce to 1440p @ 60hz I'm still getting the problem.

You can try. It has enabled me to play the game after exhausting every alternative/configuration. It wasn't even loading for me, immediate close. Old game!

Being an old game is not why ASLR isn't working.

- ASLR does not work because changes I myself made in the assembly depend on static addresses.
- You forced ASLR and that's why your game did not work.
- Your "fix" is disabling a setting that you should have not messed with and I doubt anybody else ever touched it.

In any case, calling it an "exploit" is incorrect. ASLR does not fix exploits.

You misunderstand I did not force aslr. I adjusted nothing to my settings other than the fix I posted above which made the game launch after exhausting every other alternative.

Install -> Update -> No launch -> https://imgur.com/gOQfPpg -> Game works.

The exploit fix is not a correction on a mistake I made in stumbling around to launch the game. It solves the problem for whatever reason out of the box.
