Re: Widescreen
Man,
People on here will always make a mountain out of a mole hill...
The change is different, its not terrible, its not even bad, and its defiantly not making anything harder.
Its just a more squared aspect ratio...
Holy **** people, get a grip.

This would definitely be a whole lot better^^Coalz101 wrote:Change the Font to something more compatible with wide screens and increase its size and we're good.

Nothing wrong with increasing the size just because, but people would freak out about that too.

Re: Widescreen
Is the updated map / mini-map that doesn't fill the screen an April Fools Joke? In reading the thread it seems the argument for changing it boils down to a technicality as opposed to practicality? In practice the 'old' map size worked wonderfully, whether technically correct or not. This new map doesn't fill the screen and the minimap requires us to hunt for it when we pull it up, hunt for what we're trying to find in the map, then hunt back to the action when we close it. This has to be an April Fools joke.
I think we'd all agree that decreasing the size of a map displaying a battlefield is never a good thing? This is our tool for surveying the battlefield, navigating, looking for mines, watching for friendlies—and now it's smaller.
Think of it like this: Going forward from this update, would it be a good idea to further decrease the map and minimap sizes from where they currently stand?
If your answer is "no" with the reasoning that "the map would be too small", please consider that this was just done in the update. Whatever the technical argument is, the end result is that the map was made smaller.
This is my first and only complaint btw and I've always praised you guys for the hard (and unappreciated) work over the years. But come on guys this is impractical.
Separate from that, as a suggestion might it be possible to add a % to the new cap bar? Not a complaint, but last night I wondered if it'd be simple enough to add a number so it's easy to say "60% capped" for instance? Just a suggestion, might not even be good.
On a positive, I'm looking forward to Flat Earth. The zoom down ironsights is great too. Unfortunately, I think all your great work in this update has been overshadowed by the map thing.
As always thanks for all the work you guys do.

It clearly looks better now the UI isn't stretched anymore. The only thing I dislike is the flat look it got, the tabs for example. That looks like an unnecessary change that decreases legibility.

Smaller map = worse than larger map. Also font looks weird now.

People need to stop looking at negative feedback as worse or less welcome than positive feedback. What you see in this thread are people critizising a change in the game rather than appreciating it, without calling names and without hard feelings in general. We're passionate about this game, and if it moves in a direction we don't like we want to have at least voiced our opinion.WingWalker wrote:Man,

Re: Widescreen
Just to add, better looks doesn't equal better gameplay. Squad looks great but it's awful. And population growth-wise, any new players trying out this 10+ year old game aren't gonna be concerned with the dumpier-looking map because it's baggage that's expected, but if they have an oddly placed map they might just leave and play something else.chupachupp wrote:It clearly looks better now the UI isn't stretched anymore. If it's possible to make it optional I think that'd be win/win and I'd literally bet money that most of the player population would be using the old style a month from now.=MeRk= BluFFeR wrote: A option in needed to revert back to the old style, or better still keep the old style just make it prettier...Or even make the squad selection side bigger and leave the map as is.

Re: Widescreen
Yep. Nobody is criticizing the devs, nobody's saying "fix this or I'm done!" (although I'm considering ripping out the minimap key to prevent myself from looking at it lol). And I wanna reiterate that a lot of players were complaining last night, players who either don't come to the forums or don't wanna be downtalked for expressing their concern.saXoni wrote:People need to stop looking at negative feedback as worse or less welcome than positive feedback. HOG and other server admins should do keep/revert votes every few hours when the population turns and we can see what everyone thinks. I got $20 that people want it reverted and the vote won't even be close.

Re: Widescreen
I believe it's really difficult for long term players to complain on the forum like this. We LOVE this game. We love the work all the devs put in.
I am getting older. My eyes aren't what they used to be. With this new widescreen I just can't see the enemy anymore.
Is it possible to put an option in the launcher for this new widescreen?
Once again, thank you for everything.

Are you guys even aware of what changed? This is some fascinating placebo
3D rendering was not changed. Vehicles having more black area is an issue, but having bad eyes is irrelevant. The zoom was not touched.

Re: Widescreen
I think the issue is that people have to adjust their eyeball focus on the smaller map / minimap markers and coordinates, then re-adjust again on the game when those are minimized. The small thing (map/mm) that had bigger features now has small features, while the big thing that we could always see (game screen) stayed the same.AlonTavor wrote:What...

It'd be like driving your car according to a GPS map on your phone but the GPS map got smaller. Now every time you focus on the smaller map and pop back to the driving, your eyes have to adjust focus to see the road details again.

Re: Widescreen
It's a big change for people who've played PR for more than a decade, but really my dudes, size is the same, UI doesn't look blurry anymore, what's the issue?
This is the same font size, just one is stretched horizontally, it might appear bigger, but it really isn't and definitely isn't more readable, especially on a background that would also be slightly blurred because of stretching
I do, however, agree with whoever mentioned that the UI looks a bit too flat now. It feels a bit too modern I suppose for a game like this

Please make a new feedback thread for the new menu. It is independent from the widescreen changes.PatrickLA_CA wrote: I do, however, agree with whoever mentioned that the UI looks a bit too flat now. It feels a bit too modern I suppose for a game like this
