v1.6.6 - Update Highlights

Welcome to the highlight for our next 2021 Project Reality: Battlefield 2 release. In today's highlight we would like to introduce some of the additions and changes coming with the release of v1.6.6.0. Enjoy the update!

Operation Bobcat - BETA

An island, long thought to be lost comes back to Project Reality. Originally created by Derg it got picked up by [R-DEV]Outlawz and pushed into BETA stage. This tropical paradise will feature jet vs jet combat on a 4x4km map while the infantry will likely gets lost in the jungle. It has a dedicated highlight you can read here to find out all the details and show a few more screenshots of the different layouts.
Saying goodbye to Operation Archer

We also have made the decision to remove Operation Archer in this release. With the enormous map library currently in-game of 66 maps, sometimes we have to make the tough decision to remove one. We simply neither have the manpower and motivation to support each one with the same amount of love and dedication. Furthermore, not all maps are equally popular and played regularly on our public servers. This is often due to maps no longer working and being adaptable to the ever changing gameplay of the game. Operation Archer was developed in 2007 and has served us well. But for now, we put it safely in our map vault.

Rhooks.dll, Crouch toggle and more

In previous versions of PR:BF2 we already added new features to the server side of the game that allowed us to access code normally hidden from the Python scripting interface that we use for most server programming. Thanks to that we already managed to add lots of previously thought impossible features such as the well known body dragging.

With this update we introduce a new way of doing similar things on the client side of the game. Until now we were limited to reading and editing existing game memory through the PR Launcher running in the background, but with the new rhooks.dll that we add in v1.6.6 we can now introduce custom functions directly into the PRBF2 process. In this first version we used it to implement a new crouch toggle option and we already have plans for lots more to come using this feature, so stay tuned! With the crouch toggle enabled, pressing your crouch key will keep you in the crouched position until you press the crouch key again.

This new DLL will require Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package 2015 (x86) and the Launcher will check for it to be installed before Launching the game. However, most players will already have this installed.
Showing spawn block reason

We are also continuing to improve the in game menu through quality of life changes. Now you will finally be able to see why you cannot spawn with the kit you want. This feature is also planned to get expanded to show when you select a wrong rally point and other reasons that might prevent you from spawning.

Operation Archer is gone? Shame  , it was one of my favorite maps, i also loved flying outside the map from time to time.
Was it really one of the least played maps out of those 66? Do you have any idea what other maps could be removed in future updates or am i looking way too ahead?

Even though i hate INS, it is sad to see Archer go. I hope you remove kashan, equally old map, but 10x worse even if it's AAS (and perhaps leave archer in it's place?).

At least on PRstats Ghost Train and Tad Sae are less played than Archer. I don't dislike these maps, but gonna feel the loss of Archer for sure :(

Im just wondering if Archer was really one of the least played maps. Im pretty sure certain maps are less played than Archer....i guess their devs are still working on them.

Tad Sae and Ghost Train are least played maps followed by Archer which is actually close whit Sahel and Hill 488 as you can see on PR stats.

Karbala is surprisingly played more then 2x time compared to Archer.

Yes coz Archer ins is more balance for both sides and u actually need to work with the team and assets, karbala is just blufor side having top assets against shit insurgents.
Also its problem when server admins dont do mapvotes with Op.Archer its just still same one sided ins maps coz they want to asset whore not work for the team.Archer didnt had any good aas.
Devs should work to give map new aas layout instead of removing coz they just want.
Then if its so old remove kaskan so asset whores can cry and also unoptimized Faluja.

Too bad for Archer, would have liked to give it one more go before it's removal. Maybe a week heads up that a certain map will be removed would be nice, to give the servers a chance for one more hurrah before it leaves. Hopefully it returns at some point. :)

With the python scripting breakthrough, is it possible to reverse engineer the toggle aim, to make a hold to aim function?

Appreciate the work, you guys are animals!

Same here! Operation Archer was a cool map, that I was really excited to play when I first try it! It needs some changes, but I am sure it will be introduced in the future!

Sweet! Great job all around and especially with Rhooks.dll. I'm excited to see how this helps to distinguish PR further, as a tactical experience.

Archer was a good map, that was played.... Why get rid of an INS map? their are not many as it is.
