I want to make PR map with modified factions

Post by dcm »

I want to bring back that classic basrah of .5. I want to recapture that original feeling that first brought me into PR. I would need to edit factions and swap out their equipment for older stuff too. How do I go about doing it?

  1. CD ...\pr\objects\kits\
  2. Select Folder
  3. Ctrl + C
  4. Ctrl + V
  5. Rename
  6. ?
  7. Profit!
I take it the main thing you want to do is clone one of the US factions and edit its kits? If so there isn't that much more you need to do than the above, other than also changing a load of the code which you can, for the most part, do on mass with find and replace using notepad++ but watching what it does so you don't overwrite important stuff. If you also want to change how vehicles and other things work too then that is more complicated.

TBH there are lots of steps and there are no guides on doing it, but since you are cloning an existing faction it isn't that hard since you don't need to do all the fiddly bits of making new flag icons and other stuff, but it's mainly a matter of changing what you need to, testing it, if it dosne't work, look at the error and fix the bug until you've got it all working.

Well, if this is a thing you are interested in learning how to do, might be a good idea to change your opinion of those who possess this unwritten knowledge whom you'd be asking questions to along the way. Based on this reply where we discussed technical weapons details, I got the impression that you'd sooner ridicule those who know a thing or two about programming and program configuration than look things up yourself or create something that others enjoy:

Never too late to start getting with the program and working with PR to make something you like, it's worth all the time spent if you enjoy it. Best wishes and good luck!

Rhino do you still have the M16A2, M14 DMR and T-55 in the game? I want to make classic USMC/Insurgent faction circa 2007 with all their old toys. Also Star Wars cantina bomb car music. I wanna bring it back.

They are all still in PR and even in use by many factions, other than the T-55 but I take it you mean the T-62 as PR hasn't ever had a T-55, and the star wars music, but you could easily remake that or dig up the old files, and we no longer use the vBF2 M16 but our own... Again it is up to you to go into the files, look and change what you want. If you can't work out this basic stuff on your own, or at least look first before asking then you aren't going to get anywhere with this.

See this is why I used to pay people to do this kinda stuff for me.

This is far less complicated than you are making it out to be. Your idea doesn't involve coding a physics engine, or 3d modeling, just a bit of configuration file tweaks and poking/prodding, and maybe some trial and error and testing.

You seem to be dead set on not learning anything new or applying yourself to see your goals achieved. Totally understandable if you've had a go and tried and tried again, and realized it's all Greek to you - but it is worth it to try if you haven't yet. No offense intended, but throwing money at a rudimentary problem is only a solution for those with more dollars than sense.
