Opinions On The Jets

I would love a general opinion on jets in Project Reality because I feel like community opinion matters no matter what. Doesn't matter if you know little or if you're the best Pilot ever btw


List what you like and dislike about them

Do you like the current way the physics are or would you like the physics to be messed around with again, and if so in what way?

How do you feel about the way AA and Flares work?

Do you think off map airbases need to be implemented in every map that has jets?

Do you like the current dogfighting meta? (looping and looping 24/7 or 1 Long Range = gg)

What is the best jet in this game?

These are just some general questions but if you would like to add anything yourselves then go ahead I'm all ears

I enjoy the current physics, one thing they could add is more of a speed drop if you are pulling high Gs / high AOA in turns, that would incentivise dogfights to be more about energy maintenance than just turn as hard as you can.

In the current system, once a missile is tracking a jet, no amount of flares will break the lock (except for the Fishbed because it's based). I think the current pre-flare meta hits a decent enough balance against ground. You can do ground attacks with jets while pre-flaring, but that's not guaranteed to keep you safe. However, current missile system makes air to air engagements way too luck based, who sees who first wins in 90% of the cases thanks to long range missiles that can't be defeated.
Do you think off map airbases need to be implemented in every map that has jets?
No.
Do you like the current dogfighting meta? (looping and looping 24/7 or 1 Long Range = gg)
The 24/7 looping is not always the case, sometimes two jets are dogfighting and get guns on each other every loop, which makes for some really tense moments. Comes back to my idea about allowing more AOA at the expense of kinetic energy, to sacrifice your survivability for a potential kill shot.


The long range missile meta is a one-click no-fun-allowed button which just makes me sad.
What is the best jet in this game?
Mig-21 Fishbed, it's the only jet with flares that can break locks

Pros: Armaments, Aircraft Variety, Playstyles varieties
Cons: Afterburners don't affect IR signature (Missiles in the game are basically Hybrid Missiles, FOX2s with FOX1 Warnings since they aircrafts IG have FLARES and not CHAFF)

Like Sydney said, physics are fine but they could use a bit of updated to change the turning META honestly. A2A combat is way too easy for the modern ERA how it is currently.


How do you feel about the way AA and Flares work?
We all know flares versus jets are broken, it's a fact. Honestly I believe AA should be slower with a further lock distance (If its possible to not limit to view distance), maybe like its possible to lock jets at 2km away but the missile can only go like 1.5km away from launch site before "falling" (vanishing in thin air in PR terms). IN turn if I'm in a jet and I get the lock tone at 1.5km away I can always turn away and drain the missile of it's maximum displacement distance.


Do you think off map airbases need to be implemented in every map that has jets?
Yes, but put them further away with a reduced spawn time, so if it's 8km out of the map spawn time will be about 15 minutes, 12km its 10 minutes and so forth.

We're kinda forced to like it seeing as it's probably not going to change, but it gets boring now-a-days waiting 20 minutes just to die because someone saw you at the corner of their screen and decided to load long range and shoot at you with no chance of evading that missile.


What is the best jet in this game?
In terms of Meta I'd say the Eurofighter and the J10 because they have better turn rate than any other jet in the game.
But in terms of actually having a high survival rate, probably MIG21 because you technically have more flares than any other jet in the game (You can pop 40 times while others pop 30 [Even bombers with 90 flares only pop 30 ]) even though they only appear on Soul Rebel, we might get them on the vietnam map whenever it's finished.
In terms of WW2, we all know 109 is king RN in the hands of a good pee-lot, but lets see if we ever get Russians added that might change.





With that being that I'd love to see jets like the su25 and the a10 getting more flares since they are really slow aircraft and deserve some more love, They are designed to be ground attackers and should have more flares than CAP/Multirole aircraft, 120 or 90 might be reasonable for them.
