In game stuttering

Post by MasterSkittles »

Hello everyone,

I've been playing PR for 10 or so years now (probably more) and I've just recently started back into playing. I'm noticing a very bad stutter when I'm playing, I can attempt to capture it on a recording. But I've never had an issue like this before on my old setups. It feels like it might be graphics related but changing my settings from high to low and so on hasn't made a difference.

My current setup
CPU- Ryzen 5600x (not overclocked)
Mobo- Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro
Memory- 32gb Gskill Trident Z 3200mhz
Graphics- RTX 3060 8gb
PSU- Corsair 850w

My CPU teams aren't a problem as I'm only seeing 43 Celsius as my high. My case has very sufficient air flow so the chances of it being an overheating issue are slim to none. I've seen some older threads posted about this similar issue, but nothing seems to have made a difference. I also only experience this issue with PR, all of my other games run with no issues.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully have a fix!

Anyone have any thoughts? This is a huge deal for me as it makes the game unplayable and I'd really like to get back into it more and more. For now I will just perform a fresh install of the game to make sure I don't have any corrupt game files. But this issue has plagued me since I installed on my new PC.

What is your FPS in game? Does the stutter appear constantly or only in certain situations/maps?
What are your settings? Please post the Launcher Support info.

Enable CPPC and CPPC preferred cores on your BIOS, I have mine enabled and this keeps the PR executable thread to just your strongest cores, preventing the game from jumping to other cores and causing cache incoherency (hence, stutters). I tested this on my 5600G and I got virtually zero stutters.

This is how PR should Ideally run on a modern AMD system. Other things that I enabled are L1 and L2 cache prefetcher, Opcache control, and lastly streaming stores control. They increase CPU performance quite a bit without overclocking. These settings are inside the AMD CBS menu -> CPU.

Another thing that came up to my mind is internet packet loss, you should check this too.

I will have to turn monitor my FPS and respond later tonight. It is a constant stutter, I might few seconds of clean gameplay then it hits another stutter. Currently I have all the settings on high, but I've attempted to lower them gradually and see if I could pinpoint the issue and nothing has worked so far. I will grab all that info tonight and post it.

I will make this adjustment tonight and post my results. I do have very minor packet loss on rare occasions as I'm running WIFI temporarily to this PC. However I have a gigabyte connection and the amount of packet loss I might see if less than 1% and it doesn't stick around for long. These stutters are consistent only almost every map and they last until I ultimately just close the game.

I've noticed it over multiple maps, settings are all maxed out (High Graphics AA 8x, 1920x1080p 165Hz) My max clocked FPS on Kozelsk was 210.

I did the recommended CPPC settings and I did notice very smooth gameplay for the 10 minutes I could dedicate to play tonight.

I'm still debating on performing an uninstall and reinstall just to ensure all of the game files are intact with nothing missing. Would that be something you'd recommend just to rule it out?

Glad to hear that it improved. The game validates all required files on launch. Unless you move the game to faster SSD, a re-install is not likely to improve anything.

Nice, glad to hear that CPPC works. I also don't think a reinstall is necessary, just like what mats said.

Well I played on Operation Marlin tonight and the gameplay started off smooth when I spawned at a mountain FOB. The moment I got closer to the city assets I noticed some wicked stutters. However these ones had somewhat of a different feel because they weren't consistent and did go away after a second or two.

As you enter new environments the game might be compiling new shaders which can result in some stuttering for a short time

I am running windows 8.1 and what worked for me is run pr launcher and actual application as Windows xp service pack 2. Once i did that it ran smooth. Before that i would get 8 fps or something. Also reinstalled direct x and net framework but am sure it was the compatibility
