Error at login (cannot open browser)

Post by _MB_ »

Hi (after >3 years :D ), I understand that Linux is a unsupported OS as of now, but the issue might be possibly minor and easy to solve, so bare with me.

I have Manjaro (based on Arch) Linux distro and try to run PR via wine.

When I click on the green "login through steam" button, I get "Failed opening the URL. Please make sure a default browser is configured in Windows settings."

I have setup wine's registers to choose my OS's browser and actually when the above described error is rised next to my cursor the icon of google chrome appears as if chrome was starting up, but nothing actually happens.

So there seems to be some issue in letting my browser open the steam login screen. I am hopeful I could play the game otherwise, since offline play starts up without issues.

Is there any way to circumwent this problem, by e.g. entering the URL adress required manually?

Any (attempt for) help will be appreciated ;) Please ask for any additional details, should it be helpful.

SOLUTION (It seems I cannot edit my post for any reason)

I installed google chrome into the wine and pointed the wine's registers onto it and now i can sucessfully log in, even though the error is is still diplayed.

I'm on Arch Linux trying to get Project Reality working.

Which version of Chrome did you install in Wine?

Hey! I’ve had that issue too. Try setting Internet Explorer or another browser as the default in Wine (winecfg > "Libraries" tab) to fix the login. If that doesn't work, try logging into Steam directly through Wine to avoid the browser step.

As a last resort, you can manually paste the Steam login URL into your browser.
