For the longest time I've always wanted to see some Insurgency layers for the Vietnam war in PR and no map offers a better opportunity for that then Xiangshan IMO.
Mountain, Jungles, tunnels, Rivers, villages, outposts and a fortress. Xiangshan offers alot of variety that I feel has never been fully realized in most AAS matches I've played on it. With the approval of the DEVs/map maker I'd be more then happy to try my hand at making a Vietnam era Insurgency layer for this great map.
A very rough outline in my head for the map as an Insurgency layer would involve Cache locations in the Mountain/tunnels, the river Outpost, the fishing village, the central village and the fortress with a modified NVA/VC insurgent faction opposing a US BLUFOR equipped with a variety of vehicles on both land, water and air.
Without BLUFOR having the overwhelming advantages of scoped regular kits and to encourage more unconventional game-play the NVA on the map would be a modified unconventional/insurgent variant which would strip them of traditional conventional kits and make them more akin to the Iraqi insurgent faction with lightly armed kits using AKs, SKS's, Mosins, SMGs, carbines, pistols with sparse grenades, grenade traps, mines, AT grenades and ammo spread throughout with limited RPG, PKM and Dp-28/RPK kits available from caches with some more limited sniper and HAT (recoilless type 56) kits available at main. A hideout system would also replace the current FOB system to better suit a more unconventional playing style.
BLUFOR would also enjoy advantages in total air mobility along with a limited number of M113s, CAS, Boats and maybe even a tank to give them much needed punch against an opponent that will enjoy a strong defensive advantage in terrain that highly favors ambushes, chokepoints and concealment.
For now this is all just a rough sketch of an idea I've been brewing on for awhile. But with the appropriate permissions or assistance I'd love the opportunity to move forward with the idea and any help that would point me in the right direction. My modding experience is rather limited besides making some Counter strike maps as a youngin' but I'm willing to learn, accept feedback or help in anyway needed and approach the concept with an open mind.

I also think Vietnam needs an ins map, and the jungle is very suitable for ins, but xiangshan is not a good choice because Vietnam's logistics are poor, and it is difficult for supplies to cross the bridge. Landmines can easily block the transportation of the bridge, unless there are two Vietnamese bases on the map, and you can build a fob without crossing the bridge

That wouldn't be an issue as I'd envisioned the modified NVA/VC having the ability to build hideouts like regular insurgent factions. The US on the other hand would have plenty of helicopter trans and a few boats that could circumvent any attempts to block off the map with mines.puffkiller wrote: but xiangshan is not a good choice because Vietnam's logistics are poor, and it is difficult for supplies to cross the bridge. Can't say that that I am not intrigued about the idea.
